I didn’t fall in love with you. I walked into love with you, with my eyes wide open, choosing to take every step along the way. I do believe in fate and destiny, but I also believe we are only fated to do the things that we’d choose anyway. And I’d choose you; in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality, I’d find you and I’d choose you.
I love you so much (via happinessisthebetterway)
“Not just that, even though I was tiny and not even much of an athlete, I was incredibly accurate throwing hand grenades too. Even today I can load a Sten automatic rifle in a single minute, blindfolded.”
However, she says she never killed anyone.
Her military career was cut short when she was seriously injured: “My legs were almost ripped off on my 20th birthday in 1948 in Jerusalem from cannon ball shrapnel which exploded in the student’s residence where I was living… The metal pierced both my legs, and there was blood everywhere. A cannon ball from Jordan had smashed through the window. I was thrown 20 feet. The strangest thing was that all I could think about was whether there might be some blood on the brand-new shoes I had just gotten for my birthday, and amazingly there wasn’t even a drop on them, which was all I cared about in some kind of strange denial.”

There is no part of this diatribe that is not amazing or 100% true.
You’re not in love with her.
If yelling at her during an argument doesn’t make your throat burn like you just downed 6 shots, you’re not in love with her. If her eyes can’t make you stop in your tracks and think about what you’re going to say next, you’re not in love with her. If her laugh doesn’t make you tense up at your knuckles thinking about never hearing it again, you’re not in love with her. If her voice can’t calm your worst anxiety attacks and makes you not want to listen to anything she has to say, you’re not in love with her. If her smile doesn’t make your chest quake and your lungs shrink but feel refreshed all in one motion, you’re not in love with her. If her taking off her clothes is when you pay most attention to her, you’re not in love with her.
“We’re on the slow plan to get over her terrible beginnings. She has a lot of PTSD. She was born in a kill shelter so she spent the first four months of her life in a cage. She’s terrified of the outside world. When I first brought her home, she wouldn’t even leave her carrier for the first three days. I had to buy a white noise box and insulate the whole apartment because she was so scared of noise. It took us a whole year before I could get her to leave the apartment. But now there are some mornings when she even asks to go outside. She tends to change her mind once we get to the elevator, but I always give her time to regroup, and she’s happy when we finally get outside. It’s so great to see her enjoy the outdoors. The happiness may only stick for a few moments at a time, but it’s so great to see.”
