Hey it’s been a few years so I figured I would re-introduce myself!

Why do you think Peeta stopped being his usual affectionate self with Katniss after the Quell was announced?

I think it was a combination of many factors: 1) Him being worried and stressed about the future. He was in trainer mode, trying to guarantee Katniss has the best chance possible of winning by helping her train. 2) He doesn't think she is in love with him and possibly thinks she's won't miss his affection. 3) He thinks there is something or was something between Katniss and Gale and that this will continue if she wins and returns home. 4) Since he likely thinks he will die, he may not want to encourage anything with Katniss since it will only lead to loss and hurt her. 5) Him not noticing how different he is being because he is focused on training and/or thinking Katniss will not notice and be focused in training and survival. For the most part, I think it's his focus on training combined with thinking Katniss won't miss his affection. Later on, he seems pleased and surprised when Katniss confronts him about this and makes it clear she misses him. Thanks for the ask!
