This post is going to make me sound like a total assole and I preemptively apologize. This is not directed at anyone in particular. Giving music recs to people feels awesome and listening to music recs from people is a miserable experience 85% of the time. I’ll mention a classic song I like and someone will be like “Have you heard The Breadsticks cover of that? It is so good!” and you pull it up and give it a try and it is hot garbage. It is coworker music. It is music you find on a playlist created for a popular YA ship. It is worse than the original by every conceivable metric and you sit back and realize someone thinks this is really good and you don’t want to hurt their feelings so you have no clue how to respond. We all know the phrase ‘you can’t eat at everybody’s house’ but you really cannot listen to everyone’s music recommendations. Especially if it is unprompted. People are just rearing to tell you to listen to some bullshit. And it has nothing to do with how cool the person is, there are some very cool and chill people in this world who unironically listen to Imagine Dragons in their free time. You cannot possibly know if their taste in music is good or horrendous until it is too late and your ears have been subjected to some torment.
i say DNIs don't work but i have to admit. whenever i see someone has a DNI on their profile, i do not interact with that person forthwith
The best thing about OG MST3K is the extremely Minnesota-specific jokes
when i first watched it i was living near the area where they filmed it and they kept referencing random totally non-notable places within 20 minutes of where i lived. felt like this
see every time i see this status i get angry because i’ve played through literally every scenario in rct1 and there is no place where this is a thing. there is never more than one park per map. and in rct2 you can’t make that happen i the scenario editor either. it is not remotely within the game’s functionality to simulate two discrete parks and these games were coded in assembly for christ sake so it’s not like someone modded it in by adding the line “int const TOTAL_NUM_POSSIBLE_PARKS = 2;”. there is no conceivable way this post is anything close to true and even though i know how writing all this out reflects upon me as a person and even though i know exactly how meaningless and trifling of a takedown attempt this is on some random facebook screencap with hundreds of thousands of notes im going to post it anyway because i’m too petty to have any say in the matter

i wish every single website had AO3's orphaning feature
the "assigned reading makes people hate books" thing always takes me completely off guard when someone very confidently says a book has no substance because they read it in school, but it's funnier when it's a book you haven't heard described that way before
anyway I'm still rolling over in my head the person who, categorising books similarly nonsubstantial and boring to jonathan livingston seagull, pulled flowers for algernon as their example
Now I have to know: what makes fantasy too cosy/dndslop?
I mean it usually tells you. sometimes it's because it lists out all featured tropes on the back of the book, sometimes it's because there's the sense the protagonists are a party of self-contained lore bubbles who have no reason to be together and show no sign of belonging to the setting they're in, sometimes it's homestuck dialogue, and other times a tiefling walks on-stage and goes Hello I Am A Tiefling

I don’t like this actually
This is depressing does anyone else find this depressing
I don’t think we ought to normalize or justify bullying as a means to keep people from being annoying — a sentiment that in and of itself could make for a whole article’s worth of conversation — but I do think we should make a habit of politely but directly telling people “hey I didn’t like that”, “that wasn’t funny”, “you are mistaken”, and the like if it’s called for, and more importantly, you should be able to take a “that wasn’t funny” for instance without taking it personally, because protecting a polite harmony where no one can criticize each other, not even politely, is also really, really bad.
did you go to art school or are you a hobbyist/self taught? if so, do you have any advice on anatomy and such? i really admire your work!!
thank you! that is a high compliment!
I'm self taught, everything I've learned is by studying other artists and trying absolutely everything
for anatomy, there's many things I think are helpful. 1. studying and drawing people in public. i like to watch people's hands as they type, torsos as they twist around, different strides of walking, etc, while I'm out and about. just knowing how things move is just as important as knowing where everything is in the body. i keep a small sketchbook and a pencil and pen with me all the time. most people don't mind being drawn. 2. figure drawing as a warm up. i think figure drawing is going to be the most helpful thing to you, and good news, you can get a LOT done in 30 minutes. start with 1 minute posts, and work your way up to 5 minute poses, or make 30 poses in 30 minutes. i recommend getting a subscription to Croquis Cafe for this, and browsing flickr. Flickr is great for non-posed photography, great for natural poses and normal bodies. 3. studying actual factual anatomy. there's really no way to get around knowing where muscles are and where bony points are, etc. it's interesting! you'll be able to squash and stretch anatomy however you want once you know how to break the rules. i recommend Anatomy For Artists: Drawing Form and Pose by Tom Fox.
once you have a good handle on human anatomy, you can even apply the same logic to animal anatomy, and even then you can apply your knowledge of form to anything. once you learn one thing, you can apply it to anything
just getting comfortable sketching and not getting too attached to any one drawing will make studying much easier. treating studying as slowly piecing together a whole object in your mind, until you can bullshit a way to make it feel accurate/plausible, is the goal. don't worry about making it perfect. when you study, you are there to learn, not make something perfect. being open to trying everything you can to learn, and learning everything you can about anything you can, will help you more than worrying over one drawing.
don't be afraid to ask other people what can be fixed! this is where art school would come in handy I suppose. ask your friends if something is off. don't be afraid to fix things and always improve!
as always, my inbox is always open for art questions! i hope this is somewhat helpful
rlly fascinating phenomenon to me is when a character is extremely popular, and that popularity seems understandable enough because they've got something interesting going on, and then you look at the fandom and realize 99% of their fans don't actually care about engaging with any of the things that make them interesting and instead seem to be fans of an imaginary milquetoast version that exists solely for ship and/or angst content and is so far removed from the canon character they might as well be an unrelated OC at this point
It deeply saddens me that "pdf file" has become slang for pedo. Don't you dare disrespect my wife the beautiful portable document format ever again
and to the children in the notes saying we need this fucking baby talk to get around censorship online; there's been no credible evidence that any site other that YouTube (which will only demonetize your video, ftr) will actually censor or hide content that include words like rape, pedophile, gun, terrorist, etc. etc. and even if we take as a given they were (which, again, they are not), do not fucking comply in advance, you absolute fucking coward. and ESPECIALLY do not comply by altering your real life fucking vocabulary. don't let the technocrats dictate what words you say holy fucking shit dude!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do not live your life based on what someone is comfortable advertising next to.
