Arrival [Nanami & Hinata]
"Yes, I believe. Wow, the classrooms are surprisingly close…" Then, they started walking again.
The hallway from the doors leading to the classrooms was filled with windows and pictures of various students who had already graduated from Hope’s Peak. Chiaki looked up at them in awe.
"They all have amazing talents compared to mine, but I guess I should just be happy my talent got me in this school, I suppose." she attempted to start up another conversation. "Hinata-kun…if you had a talent and you were the best as it, what do you think it would be?" she asked him, her lips parted.
Hinata looked at the pictures too as they walked, a strange feeling coming up. It was one thing meeting the other students, talking to them, seeing that they were talented but also had flaws. But only seeing those pictures with a name and talent under it made him feel out of place again. He'd never be on that wall. He was here but not really. He would have continued that line of thought if Nanami hadn't interrupted it with talking again and he gladly turned his attention away from the wall to her.
"My talent..?" Hinata thought about that for a moment. Or well.. he thought about how often he had thought about that already. "I- I honestly don't know. If I did I'd wouldn't have to be here like this." He gave a small laugh even though he had no idea why. But everything else would have made that sentence sad, and Hinata had decided to make the best out of what he had right now, so maybe laughing was making the best out of it too.
Nanami had been right though, the classrooms where very close, they had already reached the first one. Since there was no one here really Hianata decided that it wouldn't matter anyway and opened the door to the first one to peak inside and see where he'd spent a good portion of his next years.
Homework [Komaeda & Hinata]
Thanking him for paying, he followed him back to their table and sat across from him, opening his chips and munching on a few. ”..’Rushed love’…?” Komaeda asked with a questioning look, biting into one of his chips. He realized after a moment what Hinata was getting at, smiling with a sigh.
"Ah, you caught me.. I guess it was stuck in my head after you said it."
Komaeda was quiet after that, unable to think of anything else to say. He really was terrible at chatting like this, not knowing Hinata well enough to talk about his interests.
”..Hey, Hinata… What was it like before you came here?” He finally spoke up, looking down at his lap and idly eating another chip. “What was school like..? Did you used to do anything interesting like sports or something? I don’t want to sound like I’m prying, though.. You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to!” He looked back up at him, chuckling. “I’m.. just not very good at small talk.”
"Come on, you don't have to apologize for asking questions...", Hinata took a bit from his sandwich. It wasn't exactly an apology, at least it had no sorry in it, but it sure sounded like one.
"But other then that not really... I tried some stuff out but most of it wasn't really for me", some stuff here was almost everything he could squeeze in between studying and occasionally friends, but there was nothing that really sparked his interested, or that he was particularly good at so he had just stopped everything at some point. Sometimes he wondered if that had been a mistake. Though in any case.. it was to late now.
"For the rest of school, I guess I studied a lot, I really wanted to be good. And I spent some time with friends. Just.. normal stuff you now" he shrugged, there really was nothing outstanding about him, he noticed every time he had to talk about himself.
"What about you?"
First Day [Hinata & Naegi]
So, I should be fine for now. Hopefully, anyway.
"Anything you’re interested in particularly or do you want me to just show you around?"
He tilted his head, placing a curled up hand beneath his chin. His cheek puffed out slightly as he rattled the thought around. Was there something that had caught his attention? There was a lot he wanted to see, but the specifics to him were hazy… His hand uncurled, drifting to his hood and tugging it forward once before lying at his side again. Taking on a light smile, he looked back at the other while tapping his fingers against his own leg.
“I’m not really looking for anything in particular… I think seeing around the school would probably be best, although…”
His arms crossed against his chest, head turning a bit to the ceiling as he shifted his weight onto the other leg. There was something else, but he didn’t know if it was worth asking about. It hadn’t occurred to him until Hinata had asked, so perhaps he wasn’t that particularly invested in it. It never did hurt to inquire, though.
“Are there an abundance of clubs in Hope’s peak? You see… I used to be in the animal-rearing club when I was in elementary. I wasn’t exactly the best at it, in fact I bet I was doing a lot of things wrong… but it was a nice way to settle into the school and meet people.”
Naegi reached behind him and scratched his neck, chuckling slightly when he mentioned his lack of skill during the club activities. He remembered one instant that stood out in his mind where he had to guide a crane that had gotten lost on campus back into the forest. It wasn’t exactly a smooth operation… and he remembered a lot of people intently watching him as he did so. It got to his nerves a bit, and it ended up being more complicated than necessary.
“I’m not really looking for anything in particular… I think seeing around the school would probably be best, although…”
The answer didn't give any insight in what Naegi's talent could be really, but it did made Hinata think of his own first day a bit. He'd been really eager to just see every single bit of the school, and really looking at something further away without checking every other room before made the possibility of missing something only bigger.
"We should get going then, I'm sure you'll want to be back in time to the introduction." He started walking, assuming Naegi would follow him. "The cafetaria is over there.. want to take a look inside?" The rooms like the one for the cafeteria or the gym were interesting to look at, but most classrooms got boring, very fast, most of them looked the same. Especially at the beginning of the year, when the classes didn't have time to put any kind of decoration inside.
When Naegi asked about clubs Hinata didn't really have to think long. "There are a few yes. I'm not in any actually..." he looked a bit to the side, he had way to much schoolwork to do and a club would take away to much time, he was glad that he could work some meetings with friends in, between studying. "... so I can't really say what exactly there is, but you'll probably get some info regarding that at the introduction too."
He looked over to Naegi for a moment before adding. "But if you like animals, there's actually an animal breeder here. He's... a bit strange though...."

Arrival [Nanami & Hinata]
"I guess I’ll find one in the city…maybe I passed one on the way here?" Chiaki looked up, deep in thought. She didn’t think she wouldn’t notice an arcade, but she was mostly studying the handbook (she did skip a few pages, since she was tired). She snapped out of it soon after. "That doesn’t matter right now, I suppose."
The city surrounding Hope’s Peak Academy seemed vast and varied, so it probably wouldn’t be too hard to find one anyway.
"…sure." she said in agreement to Hinata’s plan, and then pulled the school map out of her backpack. "Let’s see…the math classroom is closest, but I guess it depends on where you want to go first, Hinata-kun."
"Maybe you could check on the internet?", if there was one it would probably have a website. Everything had a website and if it didn't have one itself there would at least be some sort of index that had stuff you could spend your money and freetime on listed.
He looked at the map she pulled out for a second and then shrugged. "Closest is fine I think." There wasn't anything he wanted to see in particular. He mostly wanted to see everything, but that was hardly possible; so they could just work through the different rooms. It probably wouldn't make much sense to run to some place further away, only to miss everything before that.
"Then we'll have to go this way right?", he pointed down the hallway.
Homework [Komaeda & Hinata]
Komaeda was taking a lot longer than he should’ve, a look of disdain crossing his face. Something like this always had to happen, didn’t it..? He should’ve expected this. He fumbled about his backpack for a few more moments before giving in and retreating to Hinata’s side, an apologetic look on his face.
"I guess I misplaced my wallet somewhere.. I’m sorry, I’ll definitely pay you back next time! But would you mind paying for now..? I won’t make you pay too much, I promise."
He only grabbed a small bag of chips and a bottle of water from the display, not particularly hungry himself, and also not wanting to make the other spend too much on him.
Hinata waited for Komaeda, wondering what took him so long. When the other boy finally came his mood seemed to have gone downhill. Before Hinata could ask what was going on the other already started talking.
"I guess I misplaced my wallet somewhere.. I’m sorry, I’ll definitely pay you back next time! But would you mind paying for now..? I won’t make you pay too much, I promise."
So much for 'Good Luck' huh, well it didn't matter much Hinata had certainly enough money on him for a bit of food so he just nodded.
"Sure, and don't worry. It's no big deal...", he went back to his bag to get his wallet, which was exactly where he'd put it, maybe Komaeda was just a messy person to misplace his wallet like that..?
He paid for both their stuff and they went back to sit down, Hinata immediately taking a bit out of his sandwich, maybe he'd been hungrier then he thought..
"So now you're saying next time yourself, what about your rushed love?"
Work of Art {peko&hinata}
She was perched on a stool in the art room, staring at a lump of clay laid out before her on the tabletop. All was mostly silent, aside from the gentle hum coming from the florescent lights above and the ticking of the clock on the wall. It seemed that she’d been roped into a group project of some kind for an art class. Considering she’d had a few personal things to take care of in the school’s office during this particular class period, the teacher had requested that she and another student who had also missed class to pair up together on a Tuesday evening attempt to catch up to the rest of the class.
It seemed that some paperwork had gotten messed up in regards to who her ‘guardian’ or ‘parents’ were— the matter of keeping her status as a hitman and bodyguard a secret came into play and needed to be smoothed out to soothe bocchan’s need for secrecy in the school environment. She couldn’t help that she missed class, of course… but to spend an evening in this art classroom was the last thing that she wanted to be doing.
There was a printed sheet of guidelines… And she could also see the name of her said partner… Hajime Hinata. Her mouth, pressed into a line, curled just slightly in discomfort as she casted a weary and tired glance at the clock. She had just finished training at the dojo and was not prepared in the slightest to attempt to turn the clay in front of her into a masterpiece. She was out of her element, in an art class like this. However, it was required that all of the students had to take an art course of some sort to graduate… and so she’d decided to try and knock it out as quickly as she could.
Hajime Hinata was running late. She had never seen him before and was not quite sure what exactly to expect. Peko was a very observant type and noticed the uncanny qualities that most of her classmates had. Due to her current state, she certainly hoped that it wouldn’t be anyone overwhelmingly enthusiastic or talkative. Perhaps he was the type to skip classes often? What if he didn’t show up at all?
The swordswoman felt lost, narrowing her scarlet set of eyes just slightly as she continued her staring contest with the clay, listening to the subtle sounds that the environment of an empty classroom had to offer her. Her thoughts lead her astray for a moment until the door finally opened. Sleepily, she blinked and turned her head to look at the brunette standing in the doorway. Her eyes slanted just slightly as she scrutinized his appearance.
"Hajime Hinata, I presume?"
Hinata wasn't one to skip classes. Especially not in Hopes Peak. It had happened only once before, back when he still went to a normal school and a friend from back then had dragged him along. The result had been a pretty nice day but he then had to do all the schoolwork afterwards anyway and he decided skipping wasn't actually worth the effort. And since he'd been admitted in Hopes Peak, skipping or missing classes was something he didn't even dare to think about. He was here to give his everything and not to slack of.
His record of not missing any class had a painful end though. He woke up around 3 AM already sporting a ridiculously bad headache, he somehow managed to sleep for a few more hours only to wake up to feeling even worse. And after almost fainting from dizziness on his way to his bathroom he decided that while he was dedicated he wasn't crazy and just stayed in his bed.
Where he stayed for the rest of the day, and the next one too. When he felt a bit better, or well good enough to actually concentrate on something again he sat down to catch up with his missed schoolwork. Most things were easy enough to get, it just meant more work which wasn't really the nicest considering that he didn't feel particularly well.
Still it was easy enough and he was almost caught up when, in the middle of an essay he suddenly jerked up and stared at his alarm. Shit. There had been an artclass he missed as well, which he was supposed to repeat today. To be more precise: right now. Shit. How did he forget that.
With a hurry he immediately regretted, as he was met with another wave of dizziness, he put on his shoes and a jacket ( he didn't wear one usually, but wasn't going to risk anything now ) and went outside.
At least he still remembered where the classroom was, and a few minutes later he arrived there, panting slightly (god how he hated being sick) only to be greeted with his partner for the project already waiting there.
It was a girl, and if Hinata remembered right her name was Peko Pekoyama. He hadn't met her before he was just told he had to do this with her, but hearing her name for the first time made him think that it sounded like the name of an idol, some cheery cute girl and not the seemingly stoic girl in front of him now. Not that she wasn't cute though... He shoved the thought away, that had nothing to do with anything right now.
"Yeah that's me, you're Pekoyama, right?" he answered her question and collapsed on the chair opposite of her, thinking that he probably looked like hell right now. "Sorry.. I got caught up in school work..."
First Day [Hinata & Naegi]
“A map would have been great… I don’t really have one on me though.”
They usually end up handing those out during the first day anyway. I really picked a bad time to be early…
His fingers fiddled idly at his sides, wondering if he was already unprepared. Did they have maps of the school online? Other than looking up the new students attending his school, he hadn’t looked further into it. It covered such a wide area that he figured it would be best to get it down as early as possible and that maybe wandering about would do him some good. A map hadn’t really occurred to him though, but now that it was brought up, it seemed painfully obvious.
“Hey, if you want to I can show you around a bit?”
A small smile broke through to his visage, warming his once uncertain expression into a beam. The corners of his mouth felt more relaxed, so they easily shifted into an upturned grin that bore a lot of relief. His hands raised towards his neck, tugging his hood forward a little bit as he watched the other, letting his smile relax into something more average. His head tilted before he responded, a chuckle stifling in his throat as he continued.
“Could you really? I’d appreciate it a lot. I hope I’m not interrupting anything you were doing.”
Naegi moved his head back to the side, letting his neck properly hold him upright while he gave the other another look back. He seemed pretty kind, but… there was also nothing really outstanding about him either. It gave him an impression of modesty. Beneath that exterior he showed, this guy probably had a really cool talent. In all honesty, the thought made him feel smaller the more it occupied his mind. Everyone here was bound to have amazing skills to showcase, except… well, him. If they acted as nice as him, perhaps it wouldn’t be too bad to be… average. It gave him a reassuring feeling in his heart, even if deep down, he still felt out of place in this enormous school.
“Nice to meet you, Hinata-kun. My name’s Naegi Makoto.”
Hinata nodded, he would have offered a map, but it's been a while since he had needed one so his was buried somewhere in the depth of the drawer of his desk. Other then that you could get some at the office, or well, the introduction for new students. So the other wouldn't have to worry really, he'd get his map soon enough.
"They hand them out at the introduction, so you should be fine."
After his offer to show the other boy around he immediately had an expression of relief on his face, not that Hinata could blame him. He remembered to well his own nervousness on his first day and how good it had felt to find someone else to explore the building with.
"It's fine, I have to wake up a friend later, but that still has time left." He had also wanted to get coffee but currently he felt awake enough to give a little tour. He could just get some together with an actual breakfast after he woke Nanami and brought the other back to the main hall.
"Anything your interested in particularly or do you want me to just show you around?" Whatever the guys talent was he'd probably be interested in anything relating to it first, and well Hopes Peak gave you something to work with for almost every talent, as to be expected for an outstanding school like this.
"Naegi.. Well it's nice to meet you too."
Homework [Komaeda & Hinata]
Komaeda felt relieved that he hadn’t bored the other yet, and also felt a bit reassured from his small smile. “You work really hard, getting stressed out like that.. Remember to breathe sometimes.” He noted a bit offhandedly.
”..Next time?” Komaeda looked back at him again, something between a delighted expression and a smirk on his face. “But Hinata-kun, it’s far too early for a second date. You can’t rush boy’s love, you know!”
"Just kidding!"
He turned away with another laugh, striding into the cafeteria and dumping his backpack onto a nearby table. Beginning to dig around for his wallet, he nodded towards Hinata. “You can go ahead get whatever you want, I’ll be there in a second.”
"W-what are you implying?! That's not what I meant!"
Hinata did walk right into that one, though he hadn't expected Komaeda to answer like that. The just kidding afterwards didn't help either and Hinata had to take a moment to clear his throat and think about a better phrasing for the next time.
He put his bag on the seat across the one Komaeda chose, usually he would have waited for the other to get all his stuff together so they could go together but Komaeda told him to go ahead and Hinata shrugged slightly, it didn't matter much he guessed and went to the food display.
It wasn't really hard to chose, he wasn't that hungry, so he took a sandwich and an apple and then waited for Komaeda.
Arrival [Nanami & Hinata]
The question surprised her. She was almost sure he was tired of her — but it’s not like that disappointed her. She wanted to spend more time with him, get to know him more. Maybe Hinata would be one of her best friends.
She didn’t want to bother him though. Maybe he wanted to look at his dorm, but he was the one that asked…
Maybe it’s being a little selfish, but I want to spend time with him, she thought, then deciding on her answer.
"…Well, I wouldn’t mind exploring the school with you, Hinata-kun. It’s not like anyone’s waiting for us." she replied, her smile returning once again. "Where do you want to go first? The school is huge. I hope they have an arcade. Maybe you want to check out the classrooms though?"
"Great", he gave her a small smile, his dorm could wait he thought, he'd have all year to get used to it.
"I don't think they have an arcade.." he said, thinking of the floorplans he had looked at. Unless they recently changed something there wasn't really anything like that. "There probably is one in the city though."
While he knew everything about Hopes Peak that was possible knowing without actually going there, he never put much interest in the city surrounding the school. But considering it's size he was pretty sure Nanami would at least find one arcade to her liking. Though that was for another time.
"Classrooms sound good. And maybe the cafeteria or library?"
(( jfc i tried to check my dash here, on my phone, but it did something wrong and followed a bunch of random people ))
(( yo im not sure if i can get to replies today and tomorrow, since i have to studay for some stuff, def have time again after that uvu ))
Homework [Komaeda & Hinata]
"Ah- I didn’t mean anything bad by that, I meant that you probably deserve to be a super high school level a lot more than I do.. You worked so hard after all! But that was probably rude of me to say, s-sorry.." Komaeda trailed off a bit anxiously. He wasn’t making too good of an impression, was he..
"I’m sure, though! I suppose it’s a thank you for listening to me for so long.. Usually someone would’ve shut me up by now to be honest. ..Perhaps you have a talent after all; ‘Super high school level Listener.’" It was a lame joke, a really lame joke, but he was pretty pleased, laughing at his own quip.
"But if we don’t hurry up, I won’t get to pay for either of us if the cafeteria closes!" He sped a little ways ahead of Hinata, turning back to look at him over his shoulder.
Komaeda looked a bit nervous now and Hinata actually felt bad. So he had sounded to defensive... "It's fine really, don't worry. I'm probably just a bit stressed."
"I don't think that acutally counts as talent..." he heard Komaeda laugh and gave him a small smile, even though the joke really wasn't particulary good.
"But so far you haven't said anything boring. So there's no need to tell you to shut up yet." He wondered what kind of people Komaeda had to hang out with, to shut him up so soon, they only had this short conversation and Hinata had talked a good portion of it too.
When Komaeda sped up he fell back for a few seconds, before speeding up too. "Alright, you can pay. But the next time it's my turn."
Homework [Komaeda & Hinata]
Listening silently as Hinata explained, something clicked in his head. He was like him, talentless, lower than everyone else around them. Honestly he had expected someone like him to have an unbelievable talent, to be truly worthy to be part of the prestigious Hope’s Peak student body…
”..A reserve course student, huh…?” He murmured, giving a faint smile. “I admire that you tried so hard to get in. It sounds like you had to give up a lot. With all you’ve done, you probably deserve the title of ‘Luck’ more than I do, haha..”
Komaeda’s smile etiolated some, and he looked away in thought. Maybe they were more similar than he believed.. Although he had denied the invitation at first out of fear, he had also idolized Hope’s Peak with all of his heart. The idea of raising students to be embodiments of hope itself enthralled him, and that there was an entire school dedicated to it.. He had done a lot of research, knowing almost everything about the school and students enrolling each year. But he never expected himself to join the likes of them, being able to commingle with people of such incredible talents.
Pausing as he realized they were nearly there, he brushed off his thoughts, changing the subject suddenly with a grin. “Hey, Hinata.. I’ll pay for the food; it’s on me.”
"I don't think so, I mean I do feel kind of lucky being allowed to be here", he made a short pause. He wasn't sure why, maybe out of respect. The fact that he made it, that he really managed to get into this school was still a bit overwhelming at times.
"But the rest wasn't luck, I worked really hard for this...", it sounded more devensive then he had intended it too. He knew he shouldn't make excuses and just be glad he was here, but he worked very hard for this, and still was of course.
The sudden subject change came as a surprise, Hinata was still clinging to his thoughts and it took him a moment to fully realize what Komaeda was saying. "Are you sure?" After all he had been the one who asked Komaeda if he wanted to go in the first place.. shouldn't it be the other way around then?
Homework [Komaeda & Hinata]
"Ah.. That…" Komaeda’s cheerful tone seemed to falter some, turning his head back to the other. "It’s nothing too amazing, it’s a pretty lousy talent, to be honest." Clearing his throat quietly, he lowered his head to look down at the hallway flooring as they walked.
"You see, my talent is having good luck. ..I’m not joking." He stuffed his hands into his pockets, his eyes now scanning every tile of the floor. "Every high school student in the country is put into a lottery, and the winner is asked to enroll under the title of ‘Super High School Level Good Luck.’ So supposedly, I’m here because of my good fortune, but…"
"I’m nothing more than a regular highschool student, I’m kind of out of place here. I’ve got no real talent other than being ‘lucky.’ I really feel like I don’t belong, intermingling with students of such great talents. But, even though I tried to refuse the invitation.. Hope’s Peak is apparently pretty invested in trying to figure out the luck factor of students who enter the lottery, and insisted I accept. It’s pretty amazing that they’re researching so hard into something as trivial as ‘luck’ but.. I suppose I’m glad it lets someone like me enroll in such a prestigious school."
"A-Ah- Sorry, I tend to ramble sometimes.. But enough about me, it’s your turn now! What’s your talent, Hinata-kun?" He raised his head to look at him once again, reverting back to his chipper attitude from before.
Good Luck, huh. He knew about those students, it was hard to find something Hinata didn't know about Hopes Peak. Though he hadn't spoken to any of the good luck students until now. Honestly Hinata would have given everything to get in through that, but that's not how things worked for him and well... he had given everything anyway, and it had worked.
Of course he had felt out of place before, but now that he looked at Komaeda there was a kind of distress in his face, and slipping into his words that Hinata had a hard time relating to. To think that the school went as far as insisting on him to come even though he really didn't seem comfortable with it. Hinata wasn't sure what to think of this but he felt slightly sick.
When Komaeda was done it was Hinata's turn to look away and on the ground for a moment.
"I don't have a talent actually.. I'm from the reserve course." Somehow it felt different to admit this to Komaeda then to any of the other SHSL students, though he might just react the same. "It was always my dream to go here", he continued, now looking up again but his face still not pointed to Komaeda. "I put everything in it. And well.. here I am."
