john has a lot of problems of his own, but somehow sorting out other peopleās has always been easier
heās good at listening tbh
also there are some cases when he will def judge you, but heās pretty good at keeping that judgement under wraps
sometimes his patients are so ridiculous he really wants to laughĀ
but heās more mature than that
still he knows that while some people are a laughable mess, others really do need help and thatās when he really does enjoy his job: when he can make a difference
heās found that half the time, though, it helps just to have a place to go where people can talk about their feelings
talking things out tends to be helpful in itself vs keeping everything in
anyway johnās personal life is kinda a kluster
he and connie were eighteen when connie found out that she was pregnantĀ
obviously neither of them were ready for this
but john decided he wanted this
he told her that that was okay: heād take care of the baby and she could be a mom when she was ready
john wasnāt exactly cut out for fatherhood
no really he was basically gene belcher and dropped the sack of flour as soon as the teacher gave it to him
also he canāt even keep a goldfish alive tbh
he can barely take care of himself??!????
but he worked at his dadās office and brought zach along with him until he was old enough to go to school
and somehow he balanced everything and learned how to change a diaper and make a bottle and get zach to go to sleepĀ
that didnāt mean that it all went smoothly b/c it most certainly DID NOT and tbh john was just winging it half the time and tbh itās a real miracle that zach is still alive
anyway connie avoided the two of them for a few years until she slowly started to develop a relationship with zachĀ
to this day, however, zach doesnāt know that connie is his mom and knows her only as aunt connie
john had been trying to get connie to tell zach who she really is but now heās given up trying
he knows that eventually zach needs to know but now heās twenty years old and it seems like the right time to tell him was a long time ago
all john has ever wanted was for the three of them to be a family
but now it feels like that opportunity is gone and heās gonna move on from holding out for connie to come back
heās definitely dated now and then in the past, but nothing serious
tbh part of him is still kinda pissed at her for never assuming her role as zachās mom
not that he didnāt think he didnāt do okay on his own, but he could have used her help and he thinks zach might have been better off w/ her around, too
john definitely had an unconventional parenting style
he let zach stay up as late as he wanted and let watch horror films and eat junk food
and most of the time he did those things with him, b/c he was still a kid, too
like 1/2 the stuff he says is sarcasm and tbh sometimes itās hard to tell if heās being sarcastic or serious (he tries to do better in a professional setting tho)Ā
heās still kinda a kid in a lot of ways and takes zach once a month to the next town over where they do dumb things like laser tag
but no i do think that john keeps up w/ what zach is doing and idk if zach lives at home or at the college but i feel like, either way, john still keeps in touch w/ zach and knows whatās going on in his life (except for that coven business #whoops)Ā
tries to get everyone to calm down when they are all fired up about the witches
