This is a traditional japanese paper folding “Origami” this paper fold has been placed in to a light box, with a defused layer placed on top of the box. this in turn diffuses any hash light that may come forward. this piece I placed a LED battery light, using LED lights minuses any fire hazards with paper, as it doesn’t emit much heat. using a light source bends the tone, to create a balanced geometric shape.
Here I have been experimenting with the use of the traditional Japanese paper folding “Origami” the reason for this is, it bends light, and works very well when it comes to the use of tonal value. using these methods of these techniques will most likely be carried on into the final third year exhibition.

Yayoi Kusama
Yayoi Kusama (1929, Japan) is an extremely influential avant-garde artist. It is hard to describe exactly what type of artist she is, because she has done a little bit of everything! Kusama is most famous for her “infinity” environments, which are made up of twinkling LED lights and reflecting waters. These infinity rooms merge science and mysticism, both inner and outer space. Kusama also has pop art statements that have influenced Andy Warhol. She has used polka dots and nets as motifs in her artwork since the age of ten. Kusama’s work has been featured in museums all over the world including New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Amsterdam, London, Tokyo, Minneapolis, and Arizona.

The Girls and my self are full steam ahead for the research module
As I have been doing research of light instillation, and rigorously researching my main chosen influences of my research module, I have decided to explore photo manipulation and light fractioning. as light fractioning shows its truest colour of light in terms of the light spectrum, and visually, and neurologically processing colour.
And so does the in-depth reading begins. so far I am learning about the neuroanatomy, in order for me to understand cognitive colour theory. all in the name of art and exploration

Summer is over, and Autumn is here. and finally I am in my third year, it was announced not so long ago we were to research for our extended essay, to come up with a question or a generalised statement in hope to explore or to elaborate on. with this knowledge, and mostly thinking, reading, and visually researching. it was as if the apple had dropped, and finally in so many months of reading, I found my self with a question I have been asking my self for years. How doe’s our brain respond to Colour, Light and Form. in terms of neuroanatomy, psychologically, and approached in the means of art. the main influences are Yayoi Kusama, Chris Fraser, Dan Flavin and Goethe. these findings not only intrigue me, and excite me, but it also fills me with vast knowledge of my own anatomy that I had never knew before. the first draft is handed in on the 17th of November. scary stuff
On the 1st of May was the final touches of the exhibition. The turn out was reletively successful. No works were bought, but it makes up for experience in the long run. And in hein sight it is a full success. In upcoming months when the term breaks I hope to approach a few more galleries and hopefully to work along side them to hold outside work shops for the summer.
