BOKUTO COMES FROM A NICE FULL FAMILY , being the “ middle ” child between two older brothers ( ages 21 / 23 ) and one younger sister ( age 13 ) . he’s kind of got the classic mcs thing going on there since his time as the baby of the family was super short - lived , getting sort of tossed to the wayside constantly as far as attention goes just because his brothers were decently older than him / off either being successful or giving his parents something to fret over , and his sister was just , well . the Shiny New Thing .
which isn’t to say he’s neglected in any matter , of course ! but just that he’s so eager to step out from the shadows of his Cool Smart Brothers In College and do something that only he can make the family proud of . initially , that’s why volleyball had been so important to him --- and why it was so important for him to get better and better at it , if only to prove to his family that he’s special , too .
but then it became way more than that , to the point where he wasn’t just trying to impress his family , or his team , or any of the people watching from the stands --- but also himself , since his only motivation for so long had been to get WAY STRONGER so he could finally be THE NUMBER ONE KID .
it wasn’t until he decided volleyball was fun and that he genuinely loved all his teammates and was proud to have put all that work in himself and help carry the team to countless victories that he knew volleyball was specifically his thing , more than a hobby , more than something to show off or stand out with . and that’s precisely why he’s dedicated to playing professionally , long after he graduates , so he can continue to have that “ special thing ” all to himself and never have to look for something new .
... AAAAAAAND on a side note , each member of his family also represents a different kind of owl ! i will defs get around to drawing them one day BUT FOR RIGHT NOW here’s a quick ref :
