idk who needs to hear this but your body is loveable
let’s treat ourselves more gently. let’s go to bed early. let’s rest when we need to. let’s live life in a way that doesn’t make you feel burnt out after a few weeks. i want us to have fun, to enjoy everyday life, to be present and not to always push ourselves to the last limit. challenge yourself but also treat yourself with love. okay?
| something about kitchens and holiness and food as a love language |
in a loose order, since some of the above is mixed:
1. Praise Song for the Kitchen Ghosts by Crystal Wilkinson & associated illustrations by Simone Martin-Newberry
2. Jennifer Diehl, Everything and the Kitchen Sink, 2019, Oil
3. @muslim-flint - “theres something inherently holy about kitchens” textpost
4. Even Without a Home, We Always Had a Family Meal by Misha Collins
5. @tallahasseemp3 - “my friends laughing in the kitchen while I make dinner feels religious” textpost
*forgives myself for the moments I've acted outside my values due to fear and uncertainty*
it's so easy to deny yourself basic things, like food and sleep, in order to punish yourself. but you deserve better. you deserve tasty foods that make you smile, to sleep in and go to bed early, to be warm and cozy. you never have to "earn" that. you deserve all of that and more just by existing. you're allowed to be kind to yourself. kindness is brave.
i promise you it won’t hurt as much one day. i promise one day you will look back and be glad you made it through, be glad you didn’t give up because you’ll have made many more memories. better ones with better relationships, different people and places. i hope you hold onto that.
youth is a social contruct
or rather the glorification of it is. no one is having a good amazing time ever. life is an endless train plowing through bullshit at every age from 5 to 95 there is no magical point where shit gets more or less fun things just change and you change. there will always be happy times and shit times but there will never be wasted time because no matter how old you are you have the capacity to have happy moments and fulfilling experiences. youth is just a time to be naive and make stupid shitty decisions you can laugh at later. dont regret not being able to experience going to music festivals when you were 17, go to music festivals now. theres nothing actually special about being young. if you arent dead youve got time.
gaining weight is good and being fat is good and nourishing your body is good and resting is good. fat bodies and disabled bodies and queer bodies and all marginalized bodies are good and deserve to be celebrated. your body does not have to be relegated to the sphere of neutrality or tolerance or acceptance. the world is *better* because your body is in it. the world is better because you are in it.
Remember: Resting isn’t transactional.
You don’t need to do anything special or extra difficult to deserve a break.
You don’t need to reach a certain goalpost of suffering and exhaustion before you’re allowed time off.
Resting for a day doesn’t mean that you’re obligated to work twice as hard the next day.
Humans need variety. Humans need quiet time. Humans need time to “shut off”, whatever that looks like for them.
You’re allowed to be human. You’re allowed a break. Don’t burn yourself out, okay?
if you’re wondering if you’re “sick enough” to recover, you are sick enough! a healthy person doesn’t have to question if they’re sick and struggling.
you deserve recovery!!
imagine laying in the sun and feeling the warmth on your skin and through your clothes. you don’t have to lose weight to appreciate your body and how good it can feel, you can do it right now.
a fools guide to not wanting to die anymore
by me, a fool who doesnt wanna die anymore
never make a suicide joke again. yes this includes “i wanna die” as a figure of speech. swear off of it. actually make an effort to change how you think about things.
find something to compliment someone for at least 4 times a day. notice the little things about the world that make you happy, and use that to make other people happy.
talk to people. initiate conversation as often as you possibly can. keep your mind busy and you wont have to worry anymore
picture the bad intrusive thoughts in youe head as an edgy 13 year old and tell them to go be emo somewhere else
if someone makes you feel bad most of the time, stop talking to them. making yourself hang out with people who drain you is self harm. stop it.

That’s some pretty good advice. I don’t know what’s left of my humor after ‘guess I’ll just die’ jokes but it’s worth a shot.
Personally i went from “guess I’ll die” jokes to “IF I HAVE TO BE HERE FOR 5 MORE MINUTES I PROMISE YOU I WILL BUY JUST, AN ARRAY OF CLOTHES.” and other wild hyperbolic stuff. Just replace the death part with something ridiculous and off topic. Its very entertaining
This also works with calling myself things like stupid, worthless, trash, etc. Even if you do this jokingly to yourself, your brain still believes it, and keeps up the cycle. Seriously, I found that when I stopped saying these things about myself, even jokingly, it made a massive difference.
Here’s a tip I picked up from a friend that’s helped me a lot — replace self deprecating jokes with ironically self aggrandizing jokes
Like every time I trip and fall, instead of saying “l’m just a disaster human” I say “I’m the epitome of grace and beauty”
Or like, when I draw a picture I’m not 100% happy with, instead of saying “my art is trash” I say something like “you know I think it’s time we replaced the Mona Lisa”
When you do that you get to make a joke, but you’re ALSO getting practice building yourself up, y’know?
And eventually it becomes a reflex and you get so used to it that you can say nice stuff about yourself even when you AREN’T joking
This is so important
That self-aggrandizing technique is no joke.
I replaced “I’m stupid” with “I’m a God damn genius.” “Move over newton” “another masterpiece”
I replaced “gross/ disgusting” with “sexy/attractive” “the hight of elegance”
I replaced “I suck/ that sucked/ this is bad” with “fantastic”, “a lovely time”, “ swell/jolly good”
Replace every negative with a positive. Say it so sarcastically. Make it complicated make it entertaining have fun with it.
It will stop your self deprecating and build confidence. And people are more easygoing around you.
personally i practice the self-aggrandizing technique a lot and i have found that not only do these “jokes” of how awesome you are help yourself, but it also actually makes other people smile and laugh and feel more bright around you. it’s a win win. double tap that positivity!!
Stop convincing yourself you’re wasting your life away. The time you’ve spent resting and healing was and is necessary. You’re not a waste of a person if you find yourself struggling right now. Healing, recovering, sitting with your pain is foundational. It’s not a waste. You are still whole.
