The Kelvins (2024)
i don't know man, i just wish that we could [suddenly realising i'm coming dangerously close to expressing a real and earnest thought instead of filtering everything through several layers of intangible running bits] blow up the entire world. or something.

happy 365 tech week!

rating the xanadu soundtrack
"i'm alive": a pretty strong, catchy beginning. gets repetitive quickly, but that's okay. fun key change! extra points for the aussie accent. huzzah! 7/10.
"magic": no matter how you sing this, you're going to sound off-key. it's slow, but not slow enough to be a slow song. frustrating to listen to. takes the mood way down. 1/10.
"evil woman": we're having fun again! a goofy, character-driven villain song. effectively moves the plot along. i appreciate a sisterly vengeance murder plot. 8/10.
"suddenly": generic love song between the two leads. at least this one commits to being a slow song. nice harmonies, which are almost enough to help you forget that this song is close to four minutes long. 7.5/10.
"whenever you're away from me": okay, this one is definitely too long. i don't find danny that interesting as a character, so i get bored in the middle. it's kinda catchy, though. 5/10.
"dancin'": a creative musical number? in this show? sure! nice combination of the 40s and 80s style; good job making them sound good together. overall very good. 9/10.
"strange magic": another slow song. conveys the plot, but at what cost? 3/10.
"all over the world": catchy! the up-tempo songs are so much stronger than the slow ones. the lyrics are nothing special, but they do the job. impeccable 80s vibes. 7/10.
"don't walk away": and we're back to slow town. this song could be half as long and have the same effect. however, it is my favorite of the slow songs. i'm not immune to melodramatic power ballads. 6/10.
"fool": absolute BANGER. clio eats this up. this is the one song i could listen to for four minutes, and yet it's one of the shortest on the soundtrack. c'mon, man. incredibly catchy and overall great. 10/10.
"the fall": i like the semi-reprise of "i'm alive", but that's pretty much the only thing i like. sonny, you're dumb. thanks for singing about it. 6/10.
"suspended in time": this is the perfect moment in the show to take a bathroom break. you won't miss anything. 3/10.
"have you never been mellow?": i cannot stand this song. it's supposed to be a moment of emotional significance. instead, it is a moment of me covering my ears with my hands. sounds like it was written for the penguins of madagascar tv show. 0/10.
"xanadu": will never be as good as olivia newton-john's version. i get that it's the title of the show, but i feel like there could be a stronger song to end on. 5/10.
