I used to think that these were the only ways that love amongst man unfolded. And though I was often told that being person 2 was the best option to safe guard the heart, time and time again I had chosen to be test subject #1.

Sayings We Often Hear

Patience is a virtue. 

So I thought that if I stayed here, patiently waiting for you to over look the sea of women vying to be the one to have your heart... it some how made me virtuous. 

Silence is golden.

So I silently prayed for your well being more than I prayed for my own self and remained faithfully at your service. Hoping you would realize that there was no way to cover up the fact that underneath all the fleshly desire our bone was of the same make up. 

Anything worth having is worth earning.

So when my patience began to grow thin and my faithful service became tiresome... I muttered this saying to keep me going. To remind myself that anything worth having was indeed worth earning, and that you were worth it. That in due time you would see that I was more dedicated than all the rest and had in fact earned you. 

Actions speak louder than words.

So I told myself that you, you who repeated this same expression to me one thousand times over, you lived by this. So when your words didn’t quite align with your actions, to go against what little common sense I have and base my next move off of your last move became instinct. 

Practice makes perfect.

So I studied you. For all those times we didn’t get it right were merely lessons. I did countless hours of research so that I would get better at exuding the characteristics of whatever version of Proverbs 31 it was that you needed. So that everything would be just right, and that next time would be the last time. 

One man’s trash is another mans treasure.

So after I finally let it sink in that I was baggage that you were only slightly fond of but no longer wished to use. Once I noted that you had finally made the difficult decision to discard me. I had to remember that RUBIES GOT NOTHING ON ME. And that the next person who sees past all the years of mileage I’ve acquired over these last few years worth of trips I accompanied you on. The one who treats me like I’m new again.
