Ozan Kartel was the third child born to Dilara and Altan Kartal after Zehra and Ilyas and he was a pretty happy baby. He didn’t cry much when he was transitioning into a toddler but when he hit the age of 2—he helped make sure his family all knew he’d hit the ‘terrible two’s’. He threw a lot of tantrums and it perhaps it was this need to act out that followed him into the rest of his life.
He always wanted to do something else. He’d grown up and seen his parents working for others and struggling throughout the course of their life and knew he didn’t want that. Of course it would’ve been better for him to perhaps follow his older brother’s path but Ozan always wanted to be different. He’d completed a general degree in college and then decided to pack his bags and move on to a bigger city, a metropolitan city, one where his dreams would come into fruition. That was how he’d decided to head to Atlanta.
Ozan wasn’t stupid by any means, and while that meant he had some great ideas—he didn’t have the means to execute any of them. The degree he’d achieved in business administration didn’t translate into the real world and so even when he met with wealthy investors about different project ideas—nothing came from it. It was disappointing and he’d worked some odd jobs in the city to ensure he had enough to pay his rent and get food at least once a day but things were getting hard.
When he’d left—it hadn’t been on great terms. He’d blown up at his older brother, angry that the other man had the sensibility to get his own life back on track and actually doing something he enjoyed. But that was Ozan’s fault—he lacked the dedication that Ilyas possessed and so he’d been distant from the moment he left. During the time he was away, he would still send messages to his brother on the birthdays of his niece and nephew and of course his anniversary with Stella, but he’d seldom come to see his brother. It stemmed from having far too much pride and a lot of ego as well. He’d still try to keep a bond with his family though, but it was on his own terms. He visited when he wanted to, and left in the middle of the night sometimes when he realized it got to be too much.
But now he was struggling without a proper job and coming to the realization that he’d really fucked up with the entire family as well. Not only that but he wasn’t going to make it as an entrepreneur anywhere and perhaps he would have to just come to terms with the fact that he’d have to work for someone else. It wasn’t easy but that’s what brought him to his brother’s doorstep that late evening in February 2022.
What started as a request to crash on his couch, has now turned into him being a guest at their home and so far Ozan’s been enjoying getting to know his niece and nephew quite a bit. But with his brother—there’s still that silent underlying argument they’d had when Ozan had stormed out. It’s something that clearly needs to get rectified but Ozan knows he needs to make the first move and he just hasn’t done that yet.
