Introducing the protagonist of my story, Dr. Crimson Sharp. She has a PhD in biology with focuses on conservation biology and zoology; in her home, Stable 96, she primarily works in the zoology sector and is often in a leadership role among her peers. Her special talent is performing necropsies (her name is meant to allude to her very treasured scalpel, among other coincidences related to her intelligence and personality).
Stable 96 is the “scientifically-sound” stable. It is run like a research facility primarily, tasked with one day restoring the environment/ecology of the wasteland. Rather than one overmare, they have a Board of Overmares that is meant to make decisions based on their benefit to protecting and restoring the environment. Each overmare on the board specializes in a different field of biology, so together they can make the most informed decisions possible. Crimson has campaigned for like 20 years to be allowed to adventure the wasteland and study the wildlife, both flora and fauna, literally everything. When the sun returned, she was finally given approval.
Crimson has a bit of a narcissistic personality, she thinks of herself above all others/has difficulty understanding the feelings of others and how her actions affect them because she’s so stuck in the mindset that the world is centered on her. She is the main character, you could say. In a way, she feels entitled to be the environmental savior the wasteland needs. She’s clearly smarter than everyone and she’s a direct descendant of Sprout Greenhoof, whom was on one of the first Board of Overmares as well as the Equestrian National Park Service Director before the war ended the world; additionally, the mare who was said to be able to grow anything and everything. Crimson is also, however, a direct descendant of Starlight Glimmer (I’m not explain that crackship right now lmao, but the Sprout/Starlight line exists at all bc of magic assistance on account of them both being mares) and as such, a number of ponies—Crimson included—in her lineage inherited Starlight’s emotionally-sensitive magic. Thus, Crimson is prone to anger-induced magic outbursts, among other things.
Despite all this, though, she remains very popular among the stable’s population and is very charismatic. Outside of her professional life, she has been known to sleep around a lot. This resulted in a daughter sired by her academic rival; Crimson named her Lucky Copper. Lucky is the light of her life, but she never intended to take her on her great wasteland expedition. Lucky made that choice for Crimson when she snuck out of the stable to follow her. So, they’ve been traveling together, for better or for worse.
Crimson Sharp will learn a lot about herself throughout her experience in the wasteland. Taking a narcissist from an environment where everyone likes them and everything is controlled, and placing them out in a wild, chaotic place like the wasteland will surely do a number on her…
