one of the aspects i love most about daenerys and the way she is written is the fact that she subverts the symbolism of the serpent/dragon while at the same time representing its original meaning. i love how grrm didn’t lean into the popular patriarchal demonized view of serpents (dragons) as harbingers of evil, but instead reconnected them through daenerys to their original symbolism of death/rebirth and the mother goddess.
i mean to write a fleshed out post about this topic, but it is no coincidence that dany’s dragons (and asoiaf dragons in general) are very serpentine-looking, unlike the classic fantasy europen dragons. their symbolism is very clear and it’s meant to be a subversion of the evil serpent (dragon) trope
