My heart has been beating for sixteen years yet I’m not sixteen. I’m not a case of Benjamin button where I age backwards or am from another universe. But something that all of us are well versed by are American/British shows or even movies. There even is a movie called * sixteen candles * revolves around a sixteen year old girl. But what I’m trying to say is, being sixteen isn’t about the number of candles on a cake or the number on your identification card, being sixteen isn’t a number; it’s a state of mind. Where us girls or boys discover who we are, date people where aren’t gonna remember, or even go out to places we’ve never been. It’s about living in the moment and giving any sort of care about the world. The global pandemic isn’t only affecting the people in my country were being sixteen isn’t even a big thing, but it’s affecting the whole world. Sweet sixteens are supposed to be cancelled cause of bad weather or a unexpected health emergency not because of a pandemic? It’s truly sad to think that there is someone out there whose been waiting their whole lives to celebrate their sweet sixteen in the choice of colour; wheater it’s blue or turquoise. It’s the year of becoming, the year of learning from mistakes and looking into at the faces of the people we love instead of just their eyes. Being sixteen to me is going out to malls with our friends without money, or even going for a movie once or twice. Not being stuck at home video calling as that’s the only interaction we get nowadays. But it’s important to stay at home now, or else people like me may live up to sixteen only. I don’t blame the virus outbreak or the responsible people, the fact is there’s no one to blame for this. It just bashed up a wonderful clique some of us wait for.
