“Oh my, that sounds horrible. This is like finding out they have instant tea in the States, which is just powder with water --- YIKES!!” Padma shook her head in disbelief. “I’d have to agree with you, I don’t think I’ll ever make the change to instant potions.”

“while i can’t say i’m a potions master, i can say that i received an outstanding in potions during my o.w.l.’s,” scorpius replied, uncomfortable with the way that she spoke of the future. “what kind of information did you want to know?”

“ah, i’ve found the right person to ask, then --- it’s been a real hassle to get the answer i want, seeing i don’t know anyone from another time period,” she said, before thinking a moment. “are there any revolutionary new potions? or ingredients being used that weren’t used before?”

“well, it was for me and all my fellow classmates.” the redhead responded. not too sure who was this girl was. she was positive she had never seen her before. ‘i’m sorry, i don’t believe we’ve met. i’m lily, are you new here?”

"hm. okay --- i mean, i believe you,but that’s just odd.” padma ended up shrugging, figuring that an explanation would come soon enough. enough odd things had happened at hogwarts in her years there, and there had always been one, after all. “i’m padma and no, i definitely am not. are you?”

“oh no, no -- don’t apologise, it’s okay. i know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. or cup of potion. haha,” padma shook her head. “i am very sorry about that.”

“Okay, you have a point, but you have to look at it like….. hidden treasure, or something. Just think of how divine they’ll look once they’re in clothes that aren’t completely tragic!”

"Yeah, yeah, that’s an interesting point,” Padma mused, before adding ( not because she believed it, but because she thought Romilda would agree ). “Or when they’re wearing nothing at all.”

“Well, I wish I could tell you Padma, but, I’m, unfortunately for you, not from the FUTURE.” It was so strange to say, especially so casually, “maybe find one of them and ask?? Maybe your future children, ha.”

"Yuck, I’m only NOW hearing how strange that sounds,” she said, pulling her face in a disgusted expression. “And ---- hold up?? Future children?? Are you saying that you saw any that were mine?? Because I’m not sure if I‘d want to meet them .... that’d be all sorts of fucked up.”

      “Of course you would ask about that,” Lavender commented fondly, her lips tugging up into a smile. “We could ask around and see if we can find one of the Potions Club members?? They must still have that in the future.”

    “Are you insinuating that I am a nerd?”, Padma asked, pretending to be hurt before returning Lav’s smile. “That is actually a brilliant idea -- let’s do it. In the meantime, though, have you heard anything about your fate?? I’ve heard some crazy things, so forgive my curiosity.”

“It is a bit extreme, even for our time at Hogwarts, which hasn’t been the… most typical.” In part, thanks to her, Ron, and Harry, but Hermione would gladly leave that out. “Yes, and they’ve already got robes and—Prefect badges, even? Like they’ve been here.”

“Oh, tell me about it,” Padma said, lips tugging in a smile that was only a little bit judgmental. “It’s really strange, honestly. I mean, I could understand if our professors wanted more prefects, with everything that’s going on, but these are strangers, and they don’t seem to have a clue either.”

     ‘ honestly, i think someone ( name the pranksters of our family ) decided to get some actors & put on some makeup & make us think that we all took a trip to the past. like, look at how authentic this newspaper is. ‘

     “ i am definitely not an actor and i think that newspaper looks so authentic because it is. trust me --- i can’t even tell a white lie, let alone pretend to be from the past ( which i am not, of course, although i suppose the whole idea of past is a social construct and all ) to mess with someone i don’t even know. ”

“Have you seen those clothes from the past, though?," Padma snorted. “They’re absolutely ridiculous!”

“If we were expecting such an influx of new students Dumebledore should’ve at least let us know beforehand so we could make everyone feel welcome. I’d have thought McGonagall would’ve let the prefects know at least!” Though Hermione wasn’t going to make the new students feel unwelcome by any means; she wasn’t sure why they were here but with a war brewing she was sure their relocation to Hogwarts was for their safety.

“Right? I mean, over the years I have grown somewhat used to the chaos in this castle, but this is just something else entirely,” Padma shook her head, looking at her fellow prefect with eyebrows knitted together. “It seems most of them are familiar with the castle, though, so that is quite a relief ---- how they are, however, I don’t quite understand.”

something was definitely going on. lily had known that ever since she woke up in an unfamiliar dormitory. it wasn’t until the red head checked the calendar that she knew this wasn’t normal. october 1, 1996. 1996? no, it wasn’t possible! it was just 1977 last night! “okay, what the bloody hell is going on?” lily questioned, “was it not just 1977 last night?”

    “uhhhhhh, no, no, it definitely wasn’t,” padma said, eyebrows knitted together in what she guessed was concern. or perhaps confusion, as padma was gullible, and did not want to tell the redhead that she was lying. “i mean, not for me, at least --- ‘t may have been for you? who knows, we go to a school where stranger things happen.”

       “ i happen to think that the woman looks quite good for her age, ” she shrugs. “ and she definitely doesn’t look a day older if you ask me... maybe your memory is all wobbly? ”
