Not born in Sin|| Padriac and Eleanor
eleanoraeryus:
James watched as Padriac start screaming, in Thauhndil’s arms. But this time, it wasn’t Padriac, it was James, when Elizabeth died, and little Brodie was there confused asking for his mother. A healer came out and James shot up, he walked towards the healer and he began to ask about Eleanor. “We will keep you updated, she’s undergoing surgery right now.” James nodded and listened.
He took Olwen’s hand, and began walking. “Where are we going?” asked the boy. “Flower picking for your mother and new baby sister.” said James, as he took the child out to the courtyard right outside. He didn’t want the child to see his father like this. It was nearly dawn, and James went out holding Olwen’s hand. “Grandfather is Mummy going to be alright?” asked Olwen looking up with his blue eyes. Just like Elizabeth’s. “I don’t know, child. I do not know.” He sat down on the grass with Olwen and looked at the flowers. “What’s your mother’s favorite flower?” asked Olwen. “Gardenias!” exclaimed Olwen with a smile. “That was your grandmother Elizabeth’s favorite flower.” said James with warmness in his tone.
Moments later after talking to the boy, James stood up, and grabbed Olwen’s hand. “Let’s go pick some flowers, Olly.” said James. And the two began to pick a bouquet of Gardenias.
The healers began to go through surgery on the unconscious dryad, who had lost so much blood. And the baby girl who was a little bit ill. A little fever, that was easy to fix, but what Eleanor had, was far too common amongst dehydrated dryads. They began to clean the mess, and perform surgery on the dryad, for they heard her husband outside having a total breakdown.
Hours had pass, and the surgery was complete, and successful. However, Eleanor was to be bed ridden for a fortnight until the surgical wounds would be healed. Thankfully for their patient being a dryad, that been easy and it’d give her time to be with her new child. The healers cleaned up the surgery table, and put Eleanor on new sheets waiting for her to awake.
When she woke up, Eleanor looked around, and tried to immediately to sit up, only to be motioned by the healers to do it slowly. She was handed a goblet of water, and Eleanor drank it. “Is my baby alright?” asked Eleanor. The healer nodded and smiled, as the midwife appeared with the baby, handing it to her. “It’s a girl, my lady.” Eleanor held the small child and smiled, at her dark hair, who had yawned. The healer then disappeared to the door, to go inform the others.
James and Olwen had returned and Olwen was holding a bouquet of gardenias he picked for his mother. The healer then turned to Padriac and smiled saying “You can go in, now.”
And Eleanor watched her new daughter, in awe of the life she gave. “You don’t know how much I’ve wanted to meet you.” whispered Eleanor.
Thauhndil watched as James and Olwen walked away, knowing that it was best for Olwen not to see Padriac like this, who was practically comatose in his arms, that wail of despair almost as ongoing as the one Thauhndil himself had unleashed when Alsira died. He had wept for her, only to look to the doorway and see a four-year-old wide-eyed Padriac peeking around, only one of his blue eyes showing, and it was filling with tears. Thauhndil hadn’t known what to do then to console his son, and it was doubly worse now. Padriac was a full grown Elf with a child who was already two, and an established career and reputation, and to see him falling to pieces like this broke Thauhndil’s heart. In his sessions with Theodora, he often spoke of how important Padriac’s happiness was to him now, and how he would do everything to ensure his own child, although grown, had the love and happiness provided by a parent that Thauhndil hadn’t given to Padriac as a child. And now it seemed as though Padriac feared Eleanor would die, and he would be left to raise two children alone.
It hit Thauhndil like a battering ram. If that were the case, Eleanor dying and leaving Padriac alone - which is certainly wasn’t - Padriac feared he would become like Thauhndil. But Padriac wouldn’t be alone. He would have his father and James to help.
But Eleanor wasn’t going to die. She just wouldn’t. Determinedly but wordlessly, Thauhndil helped the distraught Padriac up, leading him to where he and James had been sitting before, and managed to force Padriac to sit down. Barely a moment had passed after Thauhndil sat beside Padriac did his son suddenly lean over, resting his head on Thauhndil’s shoulder, and letting out a deep, exhausted sigh. He was still shaking, and Thauhndil comfortingly put his arm around Padriac, allowing him to finally rest and calm down after all that had happened.

Hours passed. James and Olwen still hadn’t returned, and Padriac had gone to sleep, Olwen’s blanket haphazardly thrown over his shoulders. Thauhndil luckily had grabbed one of his books to pass the time and was reading it with his free hand, the other still of course wrapped around Padriac’s shoulders. It was quiet, and dawn was quickly approaching. Thauhndil could hear Cair Paravel waking up. And as he thought this, James and Olwen finally returned, and Padriac was beginning to wake up. Olwen dropped James’ hand at the sight of his father and ran toward him, yelling, “Daddy!” Padriac smiled weakly at his son, catching him when he jumped in his arms.
“Sir Padriac? You can go in now,” a healer said as she appraoched, and Padriac quickly stood, giving Olwen a quick kiss on the forehead before putting him down and following the healer back to Ele’s room. It was clean, fresh, and best of all, full of life.
But the best and most wonderful thing he had ever seen was Eleanor sitting up, holding a small bundle in her arms. Padriac turned to grasp Olwen’s hand, and the two walked toward Ele’s bed while the grandfathers hung back for a moment. Padriac stepped up, smiling as tears came to his eyes. “Ele... Ele... I’m so glad... By Aslan...” Not caring that Olwen was right there, he kissed Ele, filled with relief and slight disbelief that she was here, alive and well. When he pulled back, he looked down at the bundle, where lay a small baby girl, dark hair circling her head. Her eyes opened, and Padriac marveled at how the baby girl looked like Ele. “H-hello there,” he stammered, using his free hand to gently touch one of the baby’s hands. “I’m so glad to finally meet you. I’m your Daddy... I’m your Daddy.”
Padriac felt an insistent tugging on his hand. “Daddy!” Olwen said, and Padriac chuckled, kneeling down to lift his son onto Ele’s bed. “Be careful,” Padriac warned Olwen carefully as the boy moved closer to Ele and the baby. “Olwen, this is your sister.” Olwen gazed intently down at his sister, his blue eyes wide, and he looked up at Ele.
“Alsira?”

Padriac & Ioan || In The Days To Come
ofheartandhand:
Every time Ioan saw Olwen Bayker, he was surprised. Mainly because he couldn’t believe his old friend actually had a child, a small part-Elven, part-Dryad boy who resembled Padriac quite strongly from the paintings Ioan remembered from Thauhndil’s Lantern Waste residence. He sat outside Padriac’s new home with Olwen, Padriac and Thauhndil. Padriac and Thauhndil were tending to the garden, and neither had mentioned where Eleneaor was, and Ioan had yet to meet Padriac’s fiancee.
He looked at Olwen again. The boy was staring at him with wide eyes, and he lifted his hand to point at Ioan’s face. Ioan couldn’t hide a chuckle. Olwen then pointed his hand at the ground beside them, and slowly a small flower grew up and out of the earth. His eyebrows rose in surprise.
Padriac sat back on his heels, wiping his forehead as he looked toward where Ioan was sitting with Olwen. It was just like old times, except Ioan stared in utter bewilderment at the small child sitting in his lap. Olwen was making a flower grow in the dirt next to them, and Padriac chuckled at the sight. He could barely make anything grow, so seeing Olwen so good at it so young was quite the skill, and he stood, grabbing a nearby rag to wipe his hands on.
“Did you ever imagine meeting him?” Padriac joked, putting the rag back and going to sit beside Ioan, gazing at his son. “Back when you lived with us, I never even thought of having my own children, and now...” He reached out, allowing Olwen to grab his finger. “He is very much real. And so is Eleanor.” Padriac looked at Ioan. “You will meet Ele. She’s just running errands today.”

Not born in Sin|| Padriac and Eleanor
eleanoraeryus:
James sat there quietly listening to Thaundil’s response. He listened to the story about Alsira and he nodded. Elizabeth was like that during her first birth. Brodie James was born in the midst of winter, and James had remembered it so vividly. And Elizabeth was such a strong woman. Her blue eyes, showed she was in pain, but when the birth of Margaret came, it didn’t work out.
The healer called out for another push, and Eleanor pushed and screamed in tears. “We see a head! You’re almost there, my lady.” said the midwife. “Padriac.” said Eleanor. “Promise me you won’t same the same mistakes, please!”
When the healer commanded for another push, Eleanor screamed again, pushing. “You’re almost there, my lady!” said the midwife. She then repeated, and squeezed Padriac’s hand as hard she could. She didn’t care if she was gonna break his hand, she was just in so, much pain.
Moments later after pushing and screaming the midwife said “It’s a girl, my lady! You have a daughter.” But there was no cry coming from the baby. Eleanor felt faint and was loosing conscious again. “Where is her cry?” quietly asked Eleanor before fainting on the bed.
The baby then began to cry, and coughed. The healers began rushing to Eleanor’s side. “Sir Padriac, your wife is loosing a lot of blood, and we need to check the baby’s health. We have to tend to her and do emergency surgery and we have to ask you to leave.” spoke the midwife. “We will do everything we can.”
Padriac was becoming panicked. Without thinking of the words coming out of his mouth, he said, “I promise! I promise I won’t be like my father! He and James will help me and they will grow up to be safe and strong and wise!” He was so scared - his hands were trembling, his whole body was shaking like a leaf. He held Ele’s hand almost as tightly as she held his, and Ele screamed again, her head falling back, and the nurse declared that the baby had arrived. Padriac’s whole body felt numb, and he stared at the nurse in disbelief. Ele was whispering, breathing harshly, and Padriac, still holding Ele’s hand, stood up straighter, listening for anything.
There was a cough, and a cry, and the crying continued. The sound was like a blessed drink of water after traveling in a desert, and Padriac let out a weak laugh. “A daughter... We have a daughter... Ele, we-” He stopped when he looked back at Ele, realising her eyes were closed. The baby was still crying as the healers began rushing about, and that’s when Padriac went completely numb, staring at Ele with wide eyes. “Ele?”
A healer was speaking to Padriac, telling him he had to leave, and he looked up at her, albeit a little frantically, and whispered, “What? WHAT?” He was being forced from the room when he realised what she had said, and he looked helplessly toward Ele. “No... NO!” he shouted, fighting against the healers, but amazingly they were stronger than him. “Ele, ELE, what is happening? STOP!” Fear was overruling all rational thought now, and he was fighting so desperately without hurting the nurses that he accidentally pulled a muscle in his leg. “Ele! ELEANOR!” Healers began obscuring his view, and tears began filling his eyes.
There was still loud crying. Padriac began shaking his head rapidly. “Wait, wait, what about my daughter? Let me see my daughter? Please!” He was begging now, but they were ignoring him, and he grabbed the doorframe as they tried to force him out. “No, wait! ELE!” Padriac felt as though he was rapidly losing control, and he was about to start inflicting injury and harm when he felt someone familiar grab his arms, and the calming voice of Thauhndil said sternly, “Padriac! Please calm down, they cannot do anything if you’re in the way!”
Padriac let go of the healers at the same time they released him, and he allowed himself to be dragged backwards by Thauhndil outside, where the door was quickly closed. Padriac could still hear the sound of his daughter crying, and he just stood there, staring aimlessly at the door, unable to process what was happening. Behind him, Thauhndil stood at the ready in case he had to grab Padriac again, and James stood nearby holding Olwen, who was asleep. Padriac’s eyes began to dart around, and they widened, and he whirled to face Thauhndil, grabbing his arms and shouting, “What if... what if she dies? We just... We just had a daughter.... A beautiful girl... She has to... She has to...” Padriac fell to his knees, still holding Thauhndil’s arms, and bowed his head.
“She has to live. I can’t raise them by myself. I can’t do it. I need her... I need her.” Padriac felt himself losing control faster and faster, feeling himself spiral, and his hands tightened. “How can I do this? I can’t live without her. I just... I love her so much.” Padriac finally took his hands away as Thauhndil knelt down. He placed his hands on Padriac’s shoulders and that was when Padriac fully lost it.

eleanoraeryus:
James continued talking. “Elizabeth would’ve loved Eleanor.” Olwen looked up at his great grandfather and listened. James then put the goblet on the floor and looked at Thauhndil. Olwen asked “Is Mummy going to die?” James shook his head. “No.“She will live. I know my granddaughter. Everything will be fine.” said James.
Eleanor held his hand, sweating, and tears filling up. “N-No Padriac. This is worse than before. Padriac, if I don’t survive, please know that I love you so much.” sobbed Eleanor.
She felt his kiss on her forehead and she kept shaking her head.
She was in so much pain, and there was blood, just like last time. But she felt so faint, and so weak. “Padriac, I’m begging you if I don’t make it, please don’t make the same mistakes your father did. Olwen needs you, the baby needs you. You listen to me.”
A healer then looked up and began to speak. “Lady Aeryus. since there is quite a lot of blood, the baby will be sooner than we thought. So you have to push, alright, my lady?”
Eleanor nodded, and the healer let her know when, and Eleanor screamed as loud as she could, in the most immense pain. She squeezed Padriac’s hand so tight, as she pushed. She stopped and began breathing heavily, feeling so faint, tears rolling down her face.
This was nothing like Olwen’s birth, this was worse than before. She kept shaking her head when the healer told her again to get ready, and another healer forced water down her throat again. “I can’t, no I won;t.” sobbed Eleanor. “My lady you must.” said another healer. Eleanor sobbed and closed her eyes, nodding, for another push, and another scream.
Thauhndil gazed thoughtfully down at Olwen, noting again how the boy looked just like Padriac at this age, and he sighed. “Padriac was born in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the winter,” he began, watching as Olwen gazed up at him. “It was just Alsira and I, since we had no family, no friends, and she didn’t die. She lived. She got through it. Eleanor will get through this... I know she will.” He pulled Olwen up so the boy could rest his head on Thauhndil’s shoulder.
Padriac’s felt as though all the bones in his head would break, and he shook his head. “No, you listen to me, Ele, you’re going to get through this! You will!” The emotion of the situation, and seeing how much pain Ele was in caused Padriac to tear up. “You’re going to live. Our children will grow up with a mother, they will.” In turn, he squeezed Ele’s hand back. “I can’t do this without you.”
It was all he could do not to fall apart. He tried focusing, focusing on thoughts of a future with Ele and Olwen and their new child. On a future where their children grew up safe, but wise and brave till the very end. A world he couldn’t be in without Ele. He blinked back his tears and focused on the matter at hand. “Come on,” he urged, kissing Ele’s forehead again and then her hand. “You can do it, come on, Ele, you can do it! Only a little bit more!”
Thauhndil looked up at the scream that seemed to echo down the hallway, and he quickly covered Olwen’s ears. He desperately wanted to find out what was happening, how his son and daughter-in-law were doing, but all he could do was wait. “I used to be Queen Barenziah’s Queensguard,” he suddenly revealed, taking his hands away from Olwen’s head. “I remember the first time she went into labour - I had been working quietly then the screaming began. She was tough. She got through it quite well.” He fell silent for a moment, gazing into Olwen’s blue eyes. “But hearing a woman scream like that... It was terrifying.”

Padriac lay flat on his back, the blanket down around his waist as Olwen lay on his chest, his little arms wrapped comfortably around Padriac’s neck. Both were fast asleep, and Padriac’s arms instinctively tightened around his son as he slept. He had fallen asleep easy for once, able to drown out Ele snoring, but his peaceful slumber was interrupted when he heard Ele yell, “Padriac!” and hit him roughly with a pillow. His eyes snapped open, blinking rapidly, and Ele called his name again, despite sitting just next to him.
Olwen had woken up faster than him, waking up in a panic when the pillow his Padriac, and he cried out, “Mummy!”, his arms now clutching Padriac as he began to cry. Padriac sat up quickly, holding Olwen tightly as he said quickly, “Ele!” She was out of bed, walking a few steps, and Padriac shouted, “ELE!” when she fell, hitting the floor, and Padriac flung the covers away, climbing out of bed and rushing around to his beloved. He knelt, still holding the crying Olwe, and shook Ele’s arm. “Ele! Eleanor! Oh no, oh no…” Padriac didn’t know what to do, least of all with a crying one-year-old in his arms.
He indeed did feel quite young when he yelled out, “Father! FATHER!” He tried moving Ele, managing to at least make sure she was lying on her back. He gave her another shake as he called out, “DAD! Quick, come quickly!” Olwen’s crying was making Padriac feel rather disoriented, and he weakly shook Ele again. He heard a door open, and Thauhndil was saying, “Padriac! Son, what is it?” He gasped when he saw Ele on the floor, and Padriac weakly said, “T…Take Olwen, I need… I need to get Ele to the Healers. I can’t… I can’t…” Fear was beginning to take over. Was he going to lose Ele?
Thauhndil said no more. Carefully, he took Olwen from Padriac. The young Dryad tried to struggle, crying out for Padriac, but Thauhn managed to soothe his crying grandson as Padriac quickly moved Ele so he could pick her up. He tried not to squish Ele’s belly, but right now Ele’s life mattered just that fraction more. Thauhn was ahead of Padriac, rushing to open the front door. The night air was chilly, but Padriac ignored it, ignoring that he wasn’t wearing a nightshirt or shoes as he rushed out. Thauhndil took a little longer, grabbing a blanket for Olwen and some clothes for Padriac before rushing out, yelling for James as he went. Whether or not Ele’s grandfather heard, Padriac didn’t know. He just ran in the night, heading toward the healer’s wing. “Send for Healer Cara!” he called behind him to Thauhndil. “She knows what to do!… I hope.”
Grandfather James woke up, to the sound of yelling all confused. When he ran into his granddaughter’s bedroom to see her unconscious he had seen himself, many years ago, holding his wife Elizabeth. He stood there, as if he was reliving his past.
He quickly ran, trying to find some blankets, a goblet of water, anything to bring back his Elizabeth- no his granddaughter, Eleanor Jaime. She looked exactly like Elizabeth. And was so much like her.
All the words he couldn’t understand, so he just began to run after Padriac, in the cold night air.
As they made their way to the hospital, Eleanor weakly woke up, in so much pain. “Padriac.” croaked out Eleanor. “It hurts so much.”
James began looking for a Healer to give Eleanor water. He quickly grabbed the goblet from one, and gave it to Eleanor, almost forcing it down her throat. The Elder knew that dehydration in labor was the cause of Elizabeth’s death, and he wasn’t going to witness it again with his granddaughter.
“Keep her hydrated. That’s how Elizabeth died. You keep her hydrated. You hear me?” commanded her grandfather to Padriac.
As one of the healers took Eleanor, to a private birthing chamber, and laid her on the bed Eleanor called out. “No! I need him. I need Padriac. I need him here with me” Tears filled her eyes, and she screamed in pain. “Please. I need my husband!”
James sat down outside next to Padriac’s father, looking at the now closed door. “I pray to Aslan he keeps her and the child alive.” said James.
Padriac watched helplessly as Ele was taken away from him to a private chamber, and he weakly accepted a tunic and his boots from Thauhndil, who had now wrapped Olwen in a blanket to keep the boy calm. James was there too, clutching a goblet he had forced Ele to drink from, and Padriac felt rather weak. “Can I... Can I...” he managed to stutter out, holding his arms out for Olwen, and Thauhndil quickly handed him over so Padriac could embrace his son, feeling himself calm down a little knowing Olwen was safe in his arms.
His comfort was short-lived, however, as he heard Ele screaming, and he turned in time to see a healer rushing up to him, saying, “Sir Padriac! Lady Aeryus requests your presence now... I apologise, but your son must remain here.” Padriac wasted no time, passing Olwen back to Thauhndil and saying, “Take care of him!” as he jogged off, and now Thauhndil and James were sitting, Thauhndil talking in a soothing tone to the now agitated Olwen. Padriac wanted to be there for his son but he had to be there for Ele more.
He couldn’t keep the fear of losing her from threatening to take over, but luckily he was soon by her side.
Padriac rushed to her, smoothing her hair back and kissing her forehead. “Love, love, I’m here, I’m here...” He took her hand. “It’ll be alright, it’ll be alright, this will pass.”

Eleanor was sound asleep in her bed with Padriac. It was the middle of the night, and her arms were wrapped around her big belly. The baby was due any day now. She just was already over it. Her eyes fluttered, when she began feeling intense pain. She thought of the story of her grandmother who died in labor with her second child. Both her and the baby did not survive. But Olwen was with them, and she survived that labor.
The pain came again, and Eleanor, was grabbing one of the pillows. “Padriac!” cried Eleanor. “Get up.” said the dryad hitting him with it. She felt so ill and in so much pain. The dizziness was something she never had experience.
“Padriac!” She heard Olwen wake up, since he called her name. “Mommy!” She turned her head, and got up, for the pains where very familiar to when she was pregnant with Olwen.
She stood up, taking a few steps, for she felt so dizzy and faint, that everything began to become blurry. The dryad then lost conscious falling to the floor.

Padriac knew he and Ele would be back to visit Alsira before the trip was out, so he allowed himself to walk away, arms linked with Ele’s, and he frowned a little. “Olwen looks exactly like me? I thought he resembled you more,” he told her, though the memory of Thauhndil holding Olwen for the first time was fresh in his mind. “I hope both our children look just like you…” He trailed off a little, stopping so he could place his hand over Ele’s belly again. “I can’t wait to meet them. Olwen’s going to be so excited when you tell him. I will tell my father.”
He looked toward the sky. Susan’s baby should be born soon… It still bothered him that he’d found out through Petra rather than Susan, but now was not the time to dwell. Instead, he just looked down thoughtfully. “May I suggest godmother again?” he asked.
“Uh… Is it magnolias? No, roses? That’s Theo’s… Daisies?” Padriac felt a sudden rush of shame that he didn’t know Ele’s favourite flowers, but he just put on a brave smile. “I’m sure your favourite is somewhere in my mother’s garden. You will love it.”
She nodded and spoke “Padriac, did you not see your painting when you were young? Both of you look exactly alike. He even has your eyes.” smiled Eleanor. “Maybe he resembles me in persona.” The dryad stopped, walking and smiled as he touched where the child was again. “Maybe this one will.” grinned Eleanor, “And I look forward to meeting this child I just hope that when I tell Olwen he understands.”
She smiled and began to spoke. “Of course you can. If you don’t mind, I already asked Tumnus to be the godfather.” She thought of how she told him and asked him at her wedding. “Who ever you have in mind would be perfect.”
The two started walking again, and the dryad laughed. “Well, I like hydrangeas, since they come in the most beautiful colors. But my personal favorite is gardenias. It was my grandmother’s flower, and I never truly got to meet her since she died young, but I saw portraits of her and such. And my grandfather told me everything about her.” She paused. “Is it in your mother’s garden?”
Padriac couldn’t help smiling as Ele spoke of Olwen, and how she looked forward to meeting this child. He stopped walking, moving to stand in front of her and wrap his arms around her. “I’m sure Olwen will be ecstatic. He’ll have an automatic friend,” Padriac grinned, leaning down to kiss Ele gently. “If Olwen can sing half as well as you then he will have gotten a good deal.” He kissed Ele harder, just glad to be able to hold her for a moment.
When she said he could name godmother, he smiled broadly, stepping to the side and linking his arm with hers. “Hmmm… Mr Tumnus, you say? Good choice… Thought I am not close with him, Queen Susan adores him, and he is a good Faun. I think he will be a fine godfather. Not only that….” Padriac paused for a moment, looking up toward the sky. He felt good about his decision. She was perfect, of course, and for Tumnus to be godfather… It was all too perfect.
He looked toward Ele. “I wish for Sister Theodora to be godmother. She has been a good friend of mine since we met, and she has helped my father a great deal. I believe she could be a source of wisdom and guidance in times out child believes we are not, which I hope doesn’t happen.” Padriac closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. “She is who I ask to be godmother.”
Padriac thought for a moment. “Gardenias?” he pondered, understanding why Ele loved them so. They were beautiful, much like she was, and Padriac lead Ele around his childhood home to Alsira’s garden. “Why don’t you see for yourself?”
