I refuse to let this game die, so what better way to try and keep it alive than to make a blog where I share every dumb idea that enters my head.

Now, these headcanons will mostly center around the human characters and their interactions with each other, slimes and the environment of the range rather than just headcanons about the slimes because apart from a few interesting ideas to consider, there's really not much to be said about the slimes on their own.

As he is my favourite, you will notice that a lot of my attention falls on Viktor Humphries, but otherwise, I'll try to keep the headcanons pretty equal for all the characters.

Of course, feel free to request headcanons about any specific character you'd like or even about AUs regarding them.

As with any blog ;however, there are a few rules:

1) no NSFW.

2) if an opinion I have regarding a certain character doesn't sit well with you, feel free to discuss it either via an ask, comments, etcetera, but do so respectfully.

3) if you would like to use any of my headcanons in fics, art, or anything of that sort, feel free to do so.

I have a question. I understand there aren't official ages for the characters, but it can be assumed that most of them are between 20 and 30 years old. Do you have any headcanons about their ages? Maybe something more specific? I'd also like to know if they have a zodiac sign

So I've actually given this some thought, and I have a couple theories.

Their ages change from AU to AU on my blog, but the main AU has Mochi being the youngest and Thora obviously being the oldest.

Mochi is around 22-23. She was able to move to the range very early on thanks to her father.

Viktor is 25-26. He originally worked as a lab supervisor for a large company, and they eventually agreed to send him to the range after he would not stop talking about needing to work with actual live subjects because relying on plort trades wasn't sustainable. He immediately cut ties with everyone who worked for that company and began working for himself on the range.

Beatrix is only a little older than Viktor at 26-27 years old. Unlike Viktor and Mochi, she wasn't able to move sooner since she didn't have any sort of advantage.

We take a jump with Ogden at 45-46 years old. Not quite a grandpa, but he's significantly older than the others.

Hobson is 72 and Thora is only two years older at 74.

As for Zodiac signs, I really don't know much about Zodiac signs apart from just happening to know mine, but I'll try to assign them Zodiac signs based on my very limited knowledge on them.

Mochi is a Cancer

Viktor is a Virgo

Beatrix is a Gemini

Ogden is a sagittarius

Hobson is an Aquarius

Thora is also a Gemini.

Woe, 'Viktor has agoraphobia' headcanon be upon ye!

Well, that would explain why he doesn't personally work in his underwater laboratory. He knows that it's completely secure because he's the one who built it, but the possibility of his calculations being even a little bit off and it not actually being as safe as he considers it is enough to deter him from working there.

I also love this headcanon because it would add to his reasons for not helping Ogden gather Kookadobas. He can't risk getting stuck in the Wilds.

For every machine or appliance he builds, he sets up at least ten safety measures for it because the idea of something going wrong and him not finding out until it's too late terrifies him.

Viktor has a lot of reasons for being glad he left Earth, and one of them is the significant lack of elevators on the Range. He was terrified of them to the point where he would always take the stairs.

Viktor's vision is likely incredibly poor. His goggles help a little bit, but he likely just spends most of his time squinting and hoping he saw whatever he saw correctly.

My guess would be that he's super hyperopic Likely around +5 to +6. In other words, he's very far sighted.

My personal reason for believing this is that he often appears to either be squinting or just having his eyes closed when communicating with Beatrix over any form of the range's communication systems. This may be because looking directly at the screen is just a little painful and he finds it hard to focus when he's that close to it.

Okay, we absolutely need Beatrix, Mochi and Viktor as a trio because their dynamic would be so cool.

The whole idea that in every trio there's a duo is usually seen as a negative, but I can see it working out well in this trio especially considering how every duo that can come from it would be such a good set up for interactions.

Beatrix is incredibly tolerant of Mochi's antics because she's just level headed in general. Both her and Mochi are very ambitious and they're both way more physically capable than Viktor.

Viktor feels a lot more confident speaking to Beatrix than he does Mochi because he doesn't feel like she looks down on him. In the case that these three are involved in some sort of shenanigan, Viktor is most likely to address Beatrix exclusively while discussing his opinion or any idea he may have. Not because he doesn't care if Mochi hears or not, but because speaking directly to Beatrix helps him feel more comfortable since he's not a great public speaker. I can also see Beatrix defending Viktor from Mochi's relentless bullying.

Mochi and Viktor are both incredibly smart. That's not to say that Beatrix isn't, but I will say that if you were to put these two in a room for an hour, they'd come out having solved world hunger... Also one of them would be crying but that's not the point.

Beatrix acts as a great middle man for them so they don't fight too often.

I can see Mochi and Beatrix laughing whenever Viktor fumbles socially or says something a little too nerdy. I can also see Viktor and Beatrix having whole conversations in just a couple glances. Mochi and Viktor building on each other's ideas and filling gaps for one another.

I love them so much.

I love the idea of Mochi and Viktor having a sibling esque rivalry.

Mochi is openly very spiteful. She'll throw shade at him shamelessly.

Viktor on the other hand is way too classy for that. He is so good at crafting insults. He could insult your entire bloodline, and you wouldn't even know it.

This leads to a lot of arguments where Mochi fully crashes out and Viktor's just vibing.

I just realised that I never really paid attention to Bob's design before. I actually can't believe how many details I overlooked initially.

I thought his design was pretty simple. Three pink slimes in a trench coat.

But he's not.

He's three pink slimes in a lab coat.

Viktor's lab coat specifically.

'it could just be a coincidence. Maybe that's just the standard for all lab coats on the range' I hear you saying.

But what about the fake cardboard slimepedia? It was obviously made by Bob and it perfectly matches Viktor's.

Viktor's slimepedia looks very different to Beatrix's which is the standard one which tells me his is personally modified. That's a story for another time, but the fact that Bob specifically designed his fake Slimepedia after Viktor's raises a couple theories.

Bob desperately wants to be perceived as human, so could it be that he views Viktor, the one who interacts with him the most, is Bob's role model for what a human looks like? Could that be why he tries to copy him?

Did Viktor gift him that coat or did Bob swipe it from him?

Is Viktor's slimepedia the only one Bob has seen? Does Bob think all slimepedias look like that?

He’d be a weird looking rad slime but slimes don’t seem to have very good ability to distinguish what things are beyond “Is food? Is Tarr slime? Is plort?” and they’re not very good at the different between two of those things.

I will say that the helmet looks more like the secret style for rad slimes than their default. Who knows, maybe Bob is glittery under there.

I'm not sure what to make of the sprite that shares a silhouette with Bob. My best guess is that it's something to do with Viktor and Bob sharing a ranch area but who knows?

I thought his design was pretty simple. Three pink slimes in a trench coat.

But he's not.

Alright, I keep talking about wanting to do a slime rancher fic, but I have so many ideas, and I'm indecisive, so I'll let you guys choose which one you like best.

Idea one: a backstory fic mainly centering around Mochi and Viktor. In this AU, Viktor works as a supervisor for one of Tatsuya Miles' labs where he experiments on plorts he gets from exchanges, courtesy of Hobson and occasionally Ogden. However, Viktor still wants to move to the range himself as he can't get slimes for his experiments due to laws preventing cross-planet exchanges of slimes. Mochi isn't officially employed by her father, but she does get to strut around like a higher up because she is his daughter. Her and Viktor generally don't have the best relationship at first with Mochi often mimicking the dismissive and degrading way her father talks to his employees when speaking to Viktor who naturally doesn't respond kindly to the treatment. Another difference from canon is that Mochi was sent on her journey to the range alongside Viktor who went there to 'expand the company's research' but actually immediately ghosted anyone related to the company as soon as he got there. That's when both he and Mochi start their individual journeys, meeting the other ranchers and establishing trade arrangements, building up their own ranches, and going through some amazing character development.

Idea two: an intense firestorm suddenly washes over the range. Thankfully, 7zee have prepared a facility for instances such as this. After ensuring their ranches and slimes are safe from the chaos, the ranchers all head to said facility to wait out the storm. We get a few wholesome interactions as the ranchers joke about how strange it is to actually see each other in the flesh. However, the storm doesn't clear by the time it's expected to, and the ranchers are left to wait restlessly and worry about their ranches. They eventually decide enough is enough and take matters into their own hands.

Idea three: Ogden tries to visit the Wilds to collect some Kookadobas as he misses the place somewhat and wants to relive his old saber slime evading days. However, in true comedic fashion he ends up getting trapped and needing help to escape. He ends up being able to contact Beatrix to ask her for help, but she discovers that her teleporter is mysteriously broken. She reaches out to Mochi for help, but they discover that her teleporter is also broken. They (begrudgingly on Mochi's part) ask Viktor for help, and they must work together to figure out how to get to Ogden and save him from the Wilds.

So, you have three options for a fic. And don't worry if your favourite doesn't end up with a majority of the votes because all of these will eventually be written in due time.

The biggest struggle of being a slime rancher blog is that I have a million ideas for fics, especially relating to the ranchers and their interactions. I have multiple drafts and an entire extensive backstory for each of them. However, I don't know how people will feel about a fic that doesn't actually centre around the current time line.

Slime rancher doesn't have a ton of fics as far as I know, but the ones I have seen rarely ever discuss the ranchers' relationships which bothers me so much because given how little these characters are developed, writers have full freedom to expand their personalities and relationships and yet I don't see a ton of people take that opportunity.

You could have a sort of sibling relationship develop between Mochi and Viktor in which they compete against one another, get into petty kerfuffles and talk about each other like they're the bane of their existence but they still genuinely care for one another. You could have Ogden act as a mentor for Beatrix, teaching her everything he knows and becoming a father figure to her. You can have all the ranchers be familiar with each other's quirks and qualities. Have the others smile warmly as they watch Mochi come to the realisation that they are much better company for her than her father could have ever been. Have them sigh endearingly whenever Viktor accidentally gets carried away talking about slime science and being a huge nerd. Have them circle Ogden, listening to his life stories intently like children.

The possibilities are literally endless. Professionalism is cool and everything, but just let them be friends.

I did actually read it, and I loved the premise. The story is very interesting and the artwork is actually amazing. I love the personality they gave Beatrix given how little we get in the actual game.

Something that frustrates me to no end is how hard it is to figure out Viktor's nationality.

Mochi Miles is very obviously of Japanese decent. Mochi is the name of a very popular Japanese desert. Her father's first name, Tatsuya, is a Japanese first name. The music in the background of her estate in Nimble Valley is played on what I can only assume is a Shamisen. A traditional Japanese instrument. It's a little on the nose.

As for Ogden, it's a little more ambiguous. Now, the name Ogden itself is of English origin;however, the name Ortiz is of Spanish origin. Ogden also calls Beatrix 'Amiga' throughout their interactions which is the Spanish word for 'friend' as most of you probably know. Now, this is where it gets tricky because he could be Spanish, but he could just as well be Mexican or from any other Spanish-speaking south American country. At least we know that he is from a Spanish speaking country.

Thora West is a very obviously American name. Her language and general demeanor would suggest she's from a more southern state. I could be wrong, but given that she's a pretty minor character, that doesn't bother me as much.

Viktor is the real problem. His name, as stated in the trivia section of his Slime rancher wiki page, is a reference to an English chemist and inventor by the name of Humphry Davy. So he's English, right? Well, that's a possibility. His speech pattern lacks slang of any type. Neither English nor American, but he's an intellectual who spends all his time conducting research, so I doubt he would be caught up on slang. Even his jokes are very nerdy and don't give us any linguistic clues as to his nationality. This may be a little nit picky, but in his letter, he mentions losing his favourite fiddle;however, he uses the American spelling of the word favourite using 'or' instead of 'our'. Regardless, his nationality is so ambiguous because the name Viktor is actually of Latin origin and it was popularised in countries like Russia, Sweden and Poland, so I have no idea what his nationality is.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling. I've just been spending way too much time trying to find out his nationality and thought I'd share the suffering.
