Congratulations to everyone for surviving the gauntlet of in-person DashCon 2 ticket sales! As always, we’re grateful and awed by your incredible enthusiasm for our work, we really can’t thank you enough.
As ever, we want to bring the DashCon 2 whimsy to as many people as possible, so we’ll once again be running Virtual DashCon 2!
But what is Virtual DashCon 2?
I’m glad you asked, because we spent a lot of time on this trailer.
For those who want to know more, Virtual DashCon 2, a.k.a. VirtualDash is the digital home of DashCon 2, a virtual event run concurrently with the in-person event. It’s hosted on Discord and will include live-streamed panels and events, online-exclusive panels, a digital dealer’s hall, online-only community events, a vote for who to publicly guillotine, and more! We’re really dedicated to translating the true spirit of the event to a digital format, and we can’t wait to show you more of what our VirtualDash team has been preparing.
The ticket gets you access to both days virtually. If you already have an IRL con ticket to either day or the entire weekend, you will get access to the virtual space too - no separate VirtualDash ticket needed!
As with last year, 10% of all ticket sales will be donated to charity. This year, we’ll be fundraising for the Rainbow Railroad. You can learn more about their work or donate to them directly on their website.
$18 CAD, so ~€11 or ~$13 USD. 10% of every ticket sale will go directly to the Rainbow Railroad, a charity whose aim is to assist queer people suffering state-sponsored persecution with claiming asylum and resettling somewhere safe. The rest will be used to cover livestreaming and server costs, which, since the convention is two days long, have now doubled. (Consequently, we’ve had to increase fees from last year, but we’re doing our best to keep it light!)
Will I keep access to panel recordings after the event?
Yes! You will maintain access to all of the recorded virtual panels so long as you don’t lose the link we send you, and YouTube still exists.
Do I need a Discord account?
Yes. Discord is a platform that hosts servers where people can send messages, join group calls, and watch livestreams, amongst other activities. It enables us to foster a digital space to connect with our community, and for you to connect with each other. You will be required to provide us with your Discord username when purchasing a ticket, and you will be sent a server invite link in your registration confirmation email. Once you’ve joined the server, you will need to actively verify that you’re a ticket holder with our bot - this feature is going to be available very soon. We encourage everyone to join the server as soon as possible, as it is a direct channel of information, and to allow us time to help you get settled in!
I’m in the Discord server; why can’t I talk to anyone?
Part of what makes online events special is intentionally imposed activity windows - when the time to chat is limited, the server is constantly abuzz, everyone’s chatting opportunities concentrated. Therefore, as an event server, the VirtualDash server will largely stay closed until the actual event date (August 1-2, 2026). However, about once a month, the server will come to life again! Our team will host special events, such as watch parties, special guest appearances, or game shows, in the lead-up to the event. This way, we can reward those who put their faith in us and bought their tickets very early. Moreover, during the event itself, there will be programming at all hours for people across different time zones, including a digital artist alley, exclusive panels, and the cosplay gallery.
We’re dedicated to making VirtualDash its own special experience, with unique, highly curated events and collaborations. These things take a lot of work to prepare, so we hope you enjoy them to the fullest. :) That said, if you’re looking for somewhere to chat about your blorbos, then we suggest you join our official public server, which runs year round!
