Throwing it out there that one of the notable instances of police violence against queer women in Toronto is the Pussy Palace Raid. They literally sent undercover female officers to investigate first then sent in a bunch of male officers to harass nude and half-clothed women. (And of course because of the name and because the victims were mainly women who were victimized because they were women, people - including members of the queer community - snicker about it to this day).
Discovering that there are people out there who don't like Diana was genuinely insane to me. Like, how are they out here shooting her when I immediately burned my Silent Assassin rating on my first run of Mendoza the instant I saw that NPC hit her and immediately decided everyone in that room had to die.
Diana & 47
I ship them but will feel weird if it ever becomes canon.
a reading from a book in my grandmother's collection -- New French Feminisms An Anthology (1981) Edited and compiled by Elaine Marks and Isabelle de Courtivron. Translated and selected to introduce french feminist writers to American readers.
translated by Isabelle de Courtivron, originally published in Le Quotidien des femmes (1975)
Honestly the art style and set up had me concerned people were overselling A Livid Lady's Guide to Getting Even, but then I saw the last 15 seconds of the OP and I am very much looking forward to seeing Elizabeth burn that entire kingdom to the fucking ground.
there are a NUMBER of folktale Woman-Creatures like selkies who exist to make the inherently coercive nature of heterosexual marriage explicit and to externalize male anxiety about how if your wife had actual autonomy she very well might disappear and you might never fucking hear from her again
which is a FASCINATING category of Woman-Creature imo
does he respect and love women or does he just find femininity endearing. does he admire the strength of women when its unrelated to childbirth and motherhood. does he get along with women or does he just find them easier to be around than men. does he respect and appreciate unconventionally attractive women. how does he treat abrasive, autonomous women.
so many 'respectful' men run around having a noble savage view of women and we're expected to gush over him and treat him like some rare god. and unfortunately women are so starved of anything close to respect that they eat it up every time.
Reading the recently published The Arm's Length Principle and what 47 says here got me:
“I am just a weapon. She makes the call. She believes in justice. That no one’s untouchable. I rarely see the nuances, but it matters to her. So it matters to me.”
i just got back from mcm comiccon, where the legends themselves david bateson and jane perry were, and i got to hear their thoughts on the 47diana dynamic from both perspectives.
it was way sweeter than i thought it would be.
when asked about diana's thoughts on 47, jane replied that "she loves him, not romantically, but she loves him" (david commented on her outlining that it's not romantic – i think jane feels deeper about that than we know) and that there's "a bit of guilt" for sending him out on missions because of this love and respect for him. "she feels a responsability towards him, she doesn't want to lose him on the field but she's always sending him out" and that it's also "a relationship where they've been through a lot together (...) then you have this connection that is undeniable." honestly, it was so sweet 🥹 bittersweet in a way too, there's a lot of angst in there for those that want to squint (like myself)
david also added that "diana cares for 47" and you can "genuinely feel this emotional companionship" 😭 SAVE ME SAVE ME SAVE MEEEEE they're both so abnormal about their characters it was 🥹 arrgrhhhh
now i don't have a video of david's perspective on 47's idea of diana because i spoke to him one-on-one during autographs, but the general idea is this: 47 also loves her, probably more than he, himself, realizes. david didn't explicitly say the word 'love', but he said he "unknowingly feels something deep for her". what surprised me most was that i think in david's eyes, 47 loves diana more than diana loves 47 and the way he talks of them is genuinely fucking romantic. david said (something along the lines of) "he has these deep feelings for her" and that their relationship could become "something more". ??? 😭 goodness. GOODNESS! whether that's romantic or platonic, i think it's undeniable that 47 really admires and cares for diana. which, like, fork found in kitchen, but it's nice hearing it from their mouths.
also, this is besides the point of the post, but goodness are both jane and david such lovely people. i was so nervous for the photo op and they were nothing but kind to me. 😭 they complimented me so much and jane shook my hand and david HUGGED MEEEEE 😭😭😭 THREE TIMES 😭😭😭😭😭 once during the photo op and twice during autographs AARUGBBRHRHHH 😭😭😭 and they both REMEMBERED MEEEEE AFTER THE PHOTO OPPPPP 😭😭😭 AND DAVID SEEMED GENUINELY EXCITED TO SEE ME AND 😭😭😭 ok i'll stop i'm just. going insane.
anyways eat your food diana47 nation
The absolute discombobulation I felt when the voice in the Freelancer Mode explanation video was NOT Diana...
thinking about shu relating having children to material riches, saying I want twins, and then immediately telling hulda about a former plum who's husband bought her a fancy car and diamond earrings when she had triplets. how gilead claims to see children as sacred but actually they are merely commodities to be bought and sold, and this has affected the way shu sees them - the more children you have the more power you have and as daisy says power is survival in gilead
gilead continually claims to find things sacred (women, children) but actually its just a cloak to hide the fact that they are products to be bought and sold in exchange for power
agnes after she becomes an aunt: i need to check on the chapin family. make sure everything is running smoothly.
aunt lydia: you've been there four times this week. you see becka more than her husband does.
agnes: just doing my aunt duties.
aunt lydia:
My grandma told me she was happy I got the option to be single and unmarried once.
The symbolism surrounding Becka's mother's death in episode 10 is insane to me. We get a conversation from the Aunts emphasizing the sacred love between a mother and her child. Then Becka's innocent mother assumes the burden of her daughter's (alleged) sins, giving up her own life in order to buy Becka's. In a regime where women are seen as the root of all sin of course they would miss the Jesus allegory right in front of them...
