In the last few months I have done several IoT based projects very efficiently and cost effectively using ESP8266 Wi-Fi module. It can be used as an independent microcontroller with built-in Wi-Fi and two GPIO pins or could be used with another microcontroller through serial communication to give a Wi-Fi connectivity to the microcontroller. It could be used to make IoT sensors network to report sensor data to the internet or the internet connected dashboards, it could be used to make a home automation device that is connected to the internet or local network. ESP8266 could be used to develop an IoT based security system, smart plugs and lights, mesh networks or wearable devices. Because of its low cost, low power consumption and small size it could be used to develop any kind of IoT device.

Oak by Digistump: Wi-Fi for all things! (Arduino Compatible) by Erik Kettenburg — Kickstarter
ESP8266: One of the most powerful and affordable module. I’m in love with this tiny cute thing. Still pretty amazed by everything it can do.
I started working on the Twitter Bot, i.e send tweets using ESP8266. It’s an amazing project if your’re a beginner like me and have no idea how to work with the wifi module. I followed the Instructable by Suban95. It was really helpful and helped me understand a lot of the things about this module
Things I used- Arduino UNO, ESP8266(Which I got for around 200Rs ($3.7)), Breadboard and Jumper wires
As the ESP is not breadboard friendly I used the jumper wires to connect the Module to breadboard, but I plan to make a bread board adapter like this one for furthur projects.
ESP also works on 3.3V logic. I did’t face any problems when I connected it directly to the 3.3 and GND ports on the Arduino, but it’s recommended to use a logic level converter
Overall it’s a really cool project and I loved working with it. I faced few problems getting my ESP connected to wifi, but other than that it was really easy and fun project/
so the first printed circuit board I ever designed arrived this week and it’s actually working :D part of a bigger project :)

My 8yr old daughter and I made these super cheap little tail draggers today … Then we wrecked them into one another until the wheel fell off mine, and she squeeled in victory.
Thinking of starting a new Robot Fighting Leugue … Maybe where your robot has to cost less than $20 in parts, so the poor kids can kick some ass too.
