Day One
Okay so here goes my first non-academic blog post ever.
Right now, things are pretty damn confusing. After finishing university for the summer back in April, i’ve been working my dead-end job a good 4 days a week which i’ve actually grown to hate. The pay isn’t all that bad, but when you’re a person like me (who highly dislikes children) and you’re working in a playcentre, things can get pretty upsetting.Â
Since June, my collueages have finshed college and school for the summer, so now, my shifts per week are slowly dissapearing into nothing which is pretty depressing. That and the fact that when I do get my name down for a shift, my managers are complete assholes with me for reasons I can’t even begin to explain.
ANYWAY. This has opened my eyes. It’s made me know, made me understand that I desperatly need a new job. I’m getting absolutely no income except from my £40 a week from the Sundays i’m apparently contracted to (despite my zero hour contract?) This isn’t functional when I have a car to pay for on finance, not to mention insurance which eats a massive chunk of my bank balance every month.Â
This job makes me feel so low and annoyed, because despite me being happy about not being there, i’m not getting any money either aside from the scraps of student loan i’ve managed to save since April. It’s such a horrible situation.
So I begin the search for a new job, applying day in, day out for easy part-time things which I know I’d learn in the bat of an eyelid. But what comes to attention is how ridiclous empolyers are these days!
Take this, for a simple cafe job I need one year working in a cafe? Why is this at all necessary when I have dealt with customers before anyway? It’s not even a barista job, just a bloody CAFE job. Are employers that lazy these days that they can’t even be bothered to train up their own, newly-employed staff. Whatever happened to a trainee?
How am I supposed to get a job when everything needs experience in somthing or another? If i’m not allowed the job, how the hell am I supposed to get any experience?! God help people who havent been in empolyment yet, sorry kids, it’s just a spiralling hill downwards from now on (thats unless you’re naturally experienced in every part-time role thats ever existed).Â
Just wondering if anyone else feels like this or am I the only one? Job searches are so god-damn frustrating, fetch me the wine.
