‘Our Immortal Nature’

This limited edition screen-print is a visual interpretation of the Black Sabbath song ‘War Pigs’. Inspired by Balinese mask carving, Thai Buddhism and Hindu symbolism, It acknowledges our current age of perpetual war and the underlying fear that is permeating much of humanity.

This print was created to be hung in the home as a positive reminder that we can learn to remain courageous amidst the chaos of life here on Earth. Through the practice of meditation, it is possible to gain the realization of our immortal nature, beyond the physical body, conquering the fear of death and bringing light to where there was once only darkness. ​​​​​​​

The Devanagari script is a Hindu mantra, asking Lord Shiva to grant us liberation and recognition of our immortal nature.

My 10yr Anniversary Party, Art Exhibit & Live Lucha Libre Show is right around the corner! In addition to a new series of gallery work, I’ve been designing a unique cast of original luchador characters and working with Mexican mask makers and talented professional wrestlers to take on these personas  

In addition to adopting lucha libre as a vehicle for story telling and creative expression as a visual artist, one of the driving forces for creating this show is that it allows people to experience something that they may never found themselves participating in otherwise. The art gallery crowd doesn’t typically find themselves cheering for masked luchadores in purple snake costumes and lucha libre fans don’t generally frequent art gallery openings, so the curious guests find themselves in a new realm of shared novelty. I find this to be an exciting space to work with as I continue to develop my work as a whole.

This collaborative exploration / adventure combines: slow shutter speed photography, light painting, fashion design, my line of T-shirts, a large hole in the earth, thunderstorms and a few bats.

The above images are the result of this curious exploration and a bent for following inspiration wherever it took us. (No Photoshop composites we used. All images were created with the lense during 30 sec. exposures)

My latest screen-print entitled 'Through The Gateway' explores a recurring theme in my work that illustrates the ancient knowledge that the underlying force driving the universe is a combination of dynamic opposites existing in perfect harmony. In Hindu art and mythology, the Goddess 'Kali the Destroyer' represents both the mother and the grave and stands as a symbol of time itself, as the physical world is constantly changing around us. Face the Darkness. Find the Light.

Lucha Libre Poster Series Kick Off

So I've always thought it would be really fun to design and produce my own lucha libre masks and luchador characters for a series of illustrated posters.

Long story short...many strange coincidences have led me down this path and I've finally got everything lined up to make this fantasy a reality! The first character in the works is named 'Oráculo' and he is brought to life by world renown luchador Jay Rios and his mask and ring gear we're hand sewn by the one and only 'Lince Dorado' - A luchador who was classically trained in the art of lucha libre and mask making by El Pantero in Mexico.

See below for the current process shots a of 'Oráculo' (The Oracle). My friends and I have  a lot planned for this project, so I'm excited to share the first steps with you guys as it starts to develop naturally. Stay tuned for more!

6-color, 18x24" signed & numbered posters are in the works and I'm planning a pre-order promotion soon. I know it's a crazy idea and I'd love to hear your thoughts as this project takes shape and evolves!
