When she rises that familiar yet always pleasing floral scent rushes his senses, so much so that for a moment Jonathan forgets what precisely he was about to do. ❝ You, ah, you seemed to have dropped something, ❞ he mutters, reaching down with his unoccupied hand to cradle a blossom and offer it to her. ❝ Surprisingly, I believe I will have to turn in shortly as well. ❞ He tilts his head in the direction of the couch. ❝ Come, then, ❞ Jonathan gives her hand a light squeeze and begins to head towards what would be her room for the meantime.
a soft laugh escapes while she accepts the flower , and it all but disappears within her palm ; gaze rising in time to catch his motion to the couch . brow furrows , but she remains silent ----- it is not her place to offer him elsewhere to sleep . next to her . instead a mere nod is her reply , following after him with their tethered hands keeping them within close proximity . ❛ is there a plan for tomorrow ? ❜ pamela asks once they are at the door to the bedroom , turning to face him fully . not that she doesn’t wholly enjoy his company , nor grateful for his hospitality , but there are always things to tend to back in the city once it is safe to return .
cranecranegoaway.
❝ No. No, I am not, ❞ he concedes as he rises to his feet and extends a hand towards Pamela. ❝ I can show you the bedroom if you’d prefer to rest somewhere more comfortable, ❞ Jonathan offers with the intention of taking the couch for himself. There were technically two bedrooms here, though the secondary one was quite literally piled to the ceiling with books for which he had no space in his usual residence.
❝ I don’t imagine you’re feeling up to board games or gabbing all evening, ❞ the doctor teases dryly.
there is no thought given nor hesitation taken ; pamela accepts his hand and instinctively interlocks their fingers . it is a strange thing ----- to have gone so long without touching anyone for fear of injuring them . of course , the antidote exempts jonathan of that , and ivy continues to harbor no qualms from giving it to him . ❛ i haven’t quite reached your level of insomnia just yet . perhaps tomorrow night . ❜ she quips back , standing upright ; three or four budding flowers toppling out from within her hair and settling where she had just been sitting .

some are considered to be triggering and/or offensive with heavy mentions of death and threatening lives.
❝ How many lives will you destroy in pursuit of what you call justice? ❞
❝ How many more bones would you crush? ❞
❝ What have I got to be afraid of? ❞
❝ You’re afraid of being ashes. ❞
❝ Talk, or I will crush every bone in your body. ❞
❝ If you’re lying, I’ll break the other one. ❞
❝ You know, you see a lot in this job. ❞
❝ I may never get the chance to tell you this, to say sorry. ❞
❝ We’d do anything for our family. ❞
❝ I might have told you a teeny, tiny little lie. ❞
❝ You did good. We did good! You should be proud. ❞
❝ Don’t answer, then. We know the truth. ❞
❝ It’s all personal. Very personal. ❞
❝ Nature always wins. ❞
❝ You don’t scare me. ❞
❝ Shh… it’s okay to be afraid. ❞
❝ Oh, my head… where… where am I? ❞
❝ You can sell them for scrap, if you ever get out. ❞
❝ Oh, what’s the matter? Touched a nerve? ❞
❝ Just so we’re on the same page here, I fully, intend to kill you. ❞
❝ But first, we’re gonna make you suffer. ❞
❝ Can you remember when it was simple? ❞
❝ You still haven’t apologized. ❞
❝ You know, half the crooks in Gotham think I feed you info. ❞
❝ Well yeah, when there’s something in it for me. ❞
❝ Sorry for making criminals think less of you. ❞
❝ Hey, have I ever hurt anyone? ❞
❝ Hey, boss! We’re gettin’ you outta here! ❞
❝ Deep down, I knew war was coming. ❞
❝ I was just waiting for someone to pull the trigger. ❞
❝ Something’s changed. You’re different. ❞
❝ I prefer to call it a work in progress, but it does show potential. ❞
❝ There’s no perfection without a little pain! ❞
❝ You know, I was just going to suggest you do that. ❞
❝ You’re trapped. There’s nowhere to run. ❞
❝ Who said anything about running? ❞
❝ Ha! No prison can hold me! Uh, hang on a second. ❞
❝ So here’s the part where you tell me off… ❞
❝ This is the end. This is the last time we meet. ❞
❝ Don’t talk like that, okay? ❞
❝ This won’t stop you. Nothing stops you. ❞
❝ You don’t want me hanging around, stealing the spotlight. ❞
❝ Tea party’s over, freak. Let’s start talking. ❞
❝ I give the orders here, not you. ❞
❝ And you’ll have three dead cops by the time I’m through. ❞
❝ We’ll see about that. Now, quit with the rhymes! ❞
❝ Now, now, officer, you mistake me for a snitch. ❞
❝ Where are they, you little son of a bitch! ❞
❝ Hahahahaha! That certainly scratched my itch. ❞
❝ Taking the warden, why not just kill him/her and escape? ❞
❝ If you want him/her dead, why come to me? You seem capable. ❞
❝ There are many in this city with a gift for causing harm. ❞
❝ I’ve seen what your toxin does. I want that. ❞
❝ Where am I? What’s happening to me? ❞
❝ The world should see you for the worthless thing you are. ❞
❝ I told you I knew everything about you, didn’t I? ❞
❝ Spare me the good cop/bad cop routine. ❞
❝ See, you’re supposed to keep me talking. ❞
❝ Look me in the eye and say that. ❞
❝ I’ve had a devil of a time tracking you down. ❞
❝ So, it’s over, the whole world knows. What now? ❞
❝ I’m not feeling myself tonight. ❞
❝ Er, um, you’ll feel better tomorrow. ❞
❝ I trusted you and you just left me to die! ❞
❝ Don’t you dare lie to me! ❞
❝ Guys, guys, guys, so good to see you. ❞
❝ I’ve got nothing to say to you. ❞
❝ I did it. Cornered you. Did what no one else could. ❞
❝ I already know, and I’m not waiting anymore. ❞
❝ But know this: it’ll be an act of mercy when you do. ❞
❝ Abandon the city, for I will unleash your greatest fears. ❞
❝ Lost for words? I expected more… I’m hurt. ❞
❝ How long did you wait before replacing me, huh? ❞
❝ Without fear, life is meaningless. ❞
❝ Why aren’t you scared!? ❞
❝ You’re old, you’re predictable and you never stood a chance. ❞
❝ You used to put up a fight. ❞
❝ I would have kept it when I was finished with you. ❞
❝ I’ve trained my mind to feel no pain. ❞
❝ Don’t be fooled, don’t think you’re winning. ❞
❝ It’s not the face you’re given… It’s the face you choose. ❞
❝ If I’m not mistaken, turned out to be rather a long one if I recall… ❞
❝ No… no! Those guns, they were mine! ❞
❝ Things change. Now, it’s just war. ❞
❝ I tried one of those question mark games they have around here. ❞
❝ I pressed the button and burnt the evil bastard myself. ❞
❝ You don’t need to worry about us, or feel responsible. ❞
❝ Once I understood your greatest fear, controlling you was simple. ❞
❝ Think very carefully about your next move. ❞
❝ That’s what I like about you - predictable! ❞
❝ You will bring death to all who follow you. ❞
❝ You were young, full of rage. You still got that fight? ❞
❝ Die, knowing that I will make them suffer- every one. ❞
❝ You die here, and your legend dies with you. ❞
❝ I kinda hoped you’d put more of a fight. ❞
❝ Sorry kid. You shoulda stuck to the little leagues. ❞
❝ I did it! I actually did it! I mean, of course I did! ❞
❝ I don’t think you’ll be solving this one. ❞
❝ Riddle me this: What’s dead? You! ❞
❝ My only regret is I didn’t kill ‘em myself. ❞
❝ You’re dead! Wait, does that mean I’m dead?! ❞
❝ Well that’s what I get for betting it all on black. ❞
❝ You survive everything I ever threw at you only to die now, like this? ❞
❝ Do me a favor and die already. I got a business to run! ❞
❝ Is this some kind of joke? Trying to run me outta Gotham? ❞
❝ I can see the same fire in your eyes. Before this night is through… that fire will consume you. ❞
❝ I’m going to steal all your money, and destroy everything you’ve built here, okay? ❞
cranecranegoaway.
❝ Me, sentimental? ❞ he scoffs though a similar smile tugs at the corner of his lips. ❝ That would hardly be befitting of a villain such as myself. ❞ Jonathan drains his glass and sets it aside, the weight of it causing a satisfying clink against the wood of the end table. ❝ That’s quite flattering, really, considering your ire towards men. ❞
a quiet hum in reply , pamela allows herself to recline again ; crossing one leg over the other and exhaling a long sigh . fatigue is not something she often feels ----- but one can only ignore the pounding ache of their injuries for so long before their bodies weaken . even poison ivy . ❛ i suppose it is , yes . ❜ a soft laugh , and her head falls against the backrest of her seat , eyes falling closed . ❛ but , you’re no ordinary man , jonathan . you must be well aware of that . ❜
cranecranegoaway.
She never fails to fascinate him, especially so when she communes with nature. Jonathan watches, mesmerized, until she poses the one question he did not want to answer.
He sputters on his drink and clears his throat ( perhaps a little longer than necessary so that he might formulate an appropriate response ). ❝ I, uh, I value you as a colleague, a partner. ❞ A person. ❝ And I did not want you to go to Arkham. Is that a sufficient answer? ❞
❛ sufficient enough , ❜ she decides , sitting forwards after some time and resting her elbows on either knee . ❛ so long as you’re not getting sentimental on me . ❜ pamela’s voice lowers on its delivery ; one side of her mouth uplifting into something of a coy smile . ❛ thank you for coming back for me . i’d have done the same . probably . ❜
cranecranegoaway.
Jonathan takes a detour by the credenza, pouring himself three fingers of scotch before taking seat opposite of her and taking a grateful, lingering sip. Finally he realizes just how tired he is and it takes him a moment to recall. A thoughtful hum is prelude to his reply. ❝ Almost two years, I believe. It has been rather useful I must admit. ❞ His gaze holds, studying.
❝ You’ll have quite the bruise. ❞
pamela remains silent while jonathan speaks , listening closely though not dormant ; arm raising , petite hand rolling on its wrist and forefinger crooking to beckon the vine prior greeted at the doorstep . it is not clear where it makes its entrance from ------ only that it quickly entangles itself around ivy’s forearm and burrows beneath the sleeve of her shirt .
❛ it will heal , as all things do . ❜ she assures , meeting the good doctor’s gaze . her eyes harden just a fraction , lips pursing with thought ; as though she can hear something that he cannot . ❛ ------ there was no need to return for me . why did you ? ❜
