AG Recipe FAQ

I’ve recieved a couple of requests to post the full American Girl recipes. I’m glad that there’s interest but I tend to be very cautious when it comes to issues like intellectual property and copyright, so I wouldn’t feel comfortable posting a whole recipe without AG’s express permission.

(Also quite frankly, the way the pages are layed out, they aren’t the best for viewing on Tumblr while cooking and it’s a lot to type out).

That being said, I am open to privately sharing recipes. If you see one you want to try, send me a direct message.

Bringing Back Content

Some of you might remember that I used to post recipes from the American Girl cookbooks on this blog before creating @pancreasrecipes two years ago. After a lot of reflecting, I’ve decided to switch back. Now that I’ve been working regular hours for the past year, it’s getting harder to maintain three blogs, and the recipe blog has just never gotten many hits.

My biggest regret is deleting all the recipe posts from my main after reblogging them, not realizing that I wouldn’t be able to see the notes anymore. This means that I will not be deleting anything from @pancreasrecipes, but rather creating master posts on here that will link to everything I’ve already made. Because you can only have 30 pictures or links on a post, there will be multiple of these.

Going forward, as I make new recipe posts, they will be put directly on here in addition to my Instagram. I’ve also branched out from the AG recipes and have been including other cookbooks as well.

After careful consideration, I have decided to switch back to my main blog for recipe posts. Thank you to everyone who's followed me here the past two years, and I apologize for the long periods between posts recently. Hope to see you back at @pancreasnostalgia.

Courtney’s Chocolate, Vanilla & Raspberry Swirl Cake, from Sweet & Savory Treats. Made for my dance studio manager’s annual 1980s birthday party, though I'm not sure what it really has to do with the 1980s or Courtney. I've never tried marbling a cake before so I didn't know how it would turn out, but from the inside it looks like the loafs you get at a coffee shop. Raspberry is the dominant flavor.

I would have rather not used icing as it wasn’t called for in the recipe and made it extra sweet, but Mom insisted. Since this was also a birthday cake for her, I let her go ahead with it. We mixed raspberry jam in with the powdered sugar.

April Fool, from the Peanuts Holiday Cookbook. It’s a cross between mousse and meringue and with the berries, tasted very summery. The hardest part was folding the berries in.

Couldn’t find blackcurrent syrup like it suggested, so I used marionberry syrup instead.

Village-Style Curried Chicken, from The Official Wakanda Cookbook. Serves closer to eight.

There is a lot of curry powder, which adds flavor without making it necessarily spicy. The meat falls off the bone and it’s tender enough to not need a knife.

New York’s Tastiest Shawarma, from the Avengers Campus Cookbook. This one has chicken, but there is another recipe with falafel to make it vegan

Very flavorful and easy to prepare. I did make the garlic sauce that’s supposed to go with it, but because it was in the refrigerator for a few hours, I forgot about it until the meal was over. At least we had hummus to use in its place.

Life Potion Soup, from The Unofficial Hocus Pocus Cookbook. Due to zucchini’s high water content, the soup comes out pretty thin. It’s refreshing and would be good cold during the summer. Nutmeg is the dominant flavor.

French Toast, from Molly’s Cooking Studio. Very basic recipe, but that makes it quick and easy. I like to use challah for the bread, with maple syrup and powdered sugar on top.

Airhead Virgin Mocktail, from The Unofficial Hocus Pocus Cookbook. It contains a lot of autumnal flavors, though the apple is not that noticeable. I would not recommend muddling the apple in the glass as this suggests, otherwise you’ll probably break it. I used a mortar and pestle instead.

The cinnamon doesn’t mix very well and the rosemary floated to the top, so it’s not the most attractive drink. An acquired taste, but refreshing enough.

Blood of Owl Soup, from The Unofficial Hocus Pocus Cookbook. This was different from most other tomato basil soups I’ve had. Mostly because it contains sugar and honey, so it’s sweeter. I didn’t even put in the whole amount of sugar because I didn’t think it was necessary.

It’s supposed to look like blood and the reference picture is definitely red, but mine came out a light orange.

Macroscopic Mac & Cheese, from the Avengers Campus Cookbook. The difficulty level is high, but it was actually pretty easy to make. It doesn’t even have you stuff the shells.

With all the spices in the cheese sauce, including ground mustard and paprika, there was a nice flavor. Made enough for multiple dinners and lunches.

Courtney’s Cheese & Chive Crackers, from Sweet & Savory Treats. Despite what the little blurb says, this is not the type of snack you would find in a mall’s food court, and I’m not sure how it really relates to Courtney.

The extra sea salt should only be added to personal taste, as these crackers have enough saltiness from the cheese. Not a low-cholesterol snack. Best to cut back on the serving size unless you’re taking them to a party.

Comte cheese is pricey so it is probably more economical to buy the gourmet cheese crackers that are often for sale at grocery stores. At least with this you can control the ingredients and experiment with different flavors.

The Great Pumpkin Cheesecake, from Peanuts Holiday Cookbook. This was my first time baking cheesecake and I was surprised how well it went. It’s become a new Thanksgiving tradition.

For the crust I used store-bought gingersnaps and the ginger was a bit overpowering for me, but my parents liked it. The pumpkin part was good, not too cream-cheesy or sweet.

There first time I made it there was supposed to be a hazelnut topping but the ingredients didn’t get put on the grocery list, so I used regular homemade whipped cream (first picture). The second time I made the hazelnut topping (second picture).

Felicity’s Chocolate-Caramel Bundt “Election” Cake, from Sweet & Savory Treats. Honestly this recipe’s association with Felicity is tenuous. But whatever, it sounded good.

The chocolate is very rich and we went with a browned butter caramel sauce, so it tasted like a Texas sheet cake. Would definitely recommend for chocolate fans. Left off the suggested sea salt flakes because the extra sodium is unnecessary.

A Spell for Cinnamon Bread, from The Unofficial Hocus Pocus Cookbook. Easy prep, but the cook time was longer than the suggested 50 minutes. The batter could have used more cinnamon as it didn’t have a whole lot of flavor, except in the crust.

I’m Sorry People Are So Jealous Of My Perfect Pink Taco, from The Burn Cookbook. Due to the shrimp being covered in marinade, the only thing that makes these tacos pink is the onion. That being said, the coleslaw had a nice kick to it and there was plenty of flavor.

Too Gay to Function Cosmo, from The Burn Cookbook. Made for Mean Girls Day (October 3rd).

If you like cranberry and citrus, this is a good cocktail. But be warned that it is very potent. One beverage was certainly enough. Please drink responsibly! If you don’t do alcohol, you can easily substitute with seltzer or club soda.
