If I had to give ONLY one reason why I love “Check, Please!” it would be this.

Really? Random details about a fictional restaurant?

Yes. Because there ARE details about a random fictional restaurant that has only appeared in one scene. CP is an iceberg – there is SO much work going into what we actually see. I do this sort of stuff too, so I think that’s why I appreciate it so much to see others do it too (and I’m relieved that I’m not the only one haha). Everything is planned down to tiny details that will probably never be revealed. The characters all have full back stories that we’ll only get glimpses of through Bitty’s eyes, but just because we don’t see the details, it doesn’t mean they aren’t there. She’s thought of them, I guarantee it.

This particular scene (where the analysts trash Jack on TV) could have easily taken place in “just a restaurant” but it didn’t. It took place at “Jerry’s” – a restaurant that serves cheap margaritas and copious amounts of burritos and loves their rowdy hockey team customers. Down along the Samwell River, past the nice bars and restaurants that most students frequent. How many things do you read or watch that have just regular “at a restaurant” scenes? This one has a backstory.

So, just keep in mind that even when Ngozi isn’t physically drawing or writing the comic, she is thinking about all these wonderful world-building details that make Samwell and its characters realistic, relatable, and oh-so-loveable!
