“Or what?” He asked, poking her soft cheek.

“Nothing is wrong.” Sydney snipped.

“Then why do you look like you’re about to bite my head off?” He asked, raising a brow. The healer couldn’t help but smile at her mood swings.

“You mean pouting?” Sydney asked, shaking her head and turning away from him. “Shut up, I’m fine.”

“You’re not.” He asked, moving to her other side to face her again. “What’s wrong? Tell me.”

“I’m not being grim.” Sydney mumbled, crossing her arms.

“Yes, you are.” He argued. “You’re doing that thing... with your face again.” He said, gesturing to the slight pout of her lips. His gaze lingered a second longer than he wanted.

Sydney rolled her eyes. “Yeah okay.” She didn’t want him to look at her like a little sister, there was a reason she’d been wearing tighter clothing around him lately.

“Why so grim?” He asked, sensing the annoyance in her tone.

“Only by a few years.”

“Precisely. You’re like a little sister to me.” He said, wrapping an arm around the girl. Except she wasn’t, really. The curves of her body haunt her at night and he spends his waking days wondering what her lips taste like. No one needed to know.

“I’m fine.” Sydney shrugged. “Why do you call me kid, I’m not that much younger than you.”

“Still younger.” He replied, a little surprised that it had bothered her so much when she was okay with it before.

Sydney pulled her hand away from his, she didn’t need him to lead her by the hand like a small child. “Alright…”

“You okay, kid?”

Sydney grinned. “Yes I do, and yes we shall.”

He took her by the hand and led her towards the kitchen. “Pretty sure it’s the guard’s lunch break. We should get by just fine.”

“That’s a fine, it’s a reluctant yes because I know you aren’t going to change your mind.”

“You know me too well.” He quipped, grinning at the girl. “Shall we?”

“If we get in trouble I’m blaming you and then running off with my Rocky Road ice cream.”

“If we get in trouble, we’ll never get caught.” He replied with a wink, helping her down the table. “So is that a yes?”

“You said the same thing about going for a walk and now I have poison ivy.”

“Fair point. But a trip to the castle kitchen isn’t a trip through the deep dark woods.” He pointed out with a laugh. “Not like you could get poisoned by bacon grease.”

Sydney wanted to keep being frustrated but he knew how much she loved Rocky Road ice cream. “This sounds like another one of your ideas that’s going to get me into trouble Paolo.”

Sydney rolled her eyes and hopped off the clinic table, stepping towards him and shoving him lightly. “Shut up.”

“Geez, that poison ivy thing is making you really cranky, huh?” He quipped jokingly. “You wanna sneak into the kitchen and steal some ice cream? I heard they’ve got a fresh stock of Rocky Road just waiting to be cherished.”
