Two other characters from the TBN project that I haven't discussed recently. These were just some quick doodles with side notes to put together their similarities given the stories they sort of share (or rather that they intertwine in a way)
And yes, Jakob IS wearing makeup. He's not actually deathly pale like that

Sure! Let's see...
-Like I said on my side blog, I have a strong belief that Mummy is loosely based on the legendary hero of Inkarri, who was said in the stories about Paititi to be the city's founder and leader.
-However, that being said, I also think Mummy isn't actually a full-time leader of his people but acts more of a similar way that an advisor or high priest would in terms of ranking. YET, at the same time, he could also be of relations to the royal family as a proposed prince or relative! And who knows, he could very well BE a leader too! Regardless, Mummy has some power and influence over his people prior to his exile.
-Not really a HC but a given fact, Mummy has a kill count under his belt. And a big one at that. He may have been "softened up" in the sequels but I DO like to think he occasionally brings this up from time to time and will act on it without Tad or Sara knowing should someone threaten them or piss him off enough.
-Whether Oli (Olympia) is Tad and Sara's biological daughter or not, I do think she has a great resemblance to Sara's mother (the hair and green eyes especially) and Sara as a child while also having the same facial qualities as her dad Tad when he was a kid. But she definitely looks a lot like Sara when she was little, that's for sure! They even share a similar hair style as kids too!
-And piggybacking off of the last one, I think Oli will definitely have a good resemblance of both her parents features when she grows up. Red brown hair like her mom, a bit of a nose like her dad but all their personalities mashed together! Maybe she too follows in her parents' footsteps to become an archeologist as well!
-TBH I think sometimes Mummy likes to play stupid just for the sake of trolling people and wanting to have fun. He sort of lives for the reactions of others because it is funny to him. He is definitely a chaotic type person.
-Mummy being clingy and often pining to be the center of attention is very in character for a person of his personal background! The Sapa Inka was often regarded as the center of their world aka the Sun (or rather an incarnation of the Sun God Inti). And again, based if he is truly a leader or just a relative of the royal family, it still fits in character for him to act like the center of attention and crave for that attention; especially after he's been booted out of his community and no longer has contact with them. He feels for and misses that sense of community he used to have.
-I'm willing to bet there are lots of others "lost" explorers stuck in Paititi's dungeons that have either been stuck there for X amount of years or integrated into society as part of the community too.
-Vice versa I also think any explorers who had been too close to the area way back then have likely run into a few of the mummy denizens and ran off out of complete fright. No one ever believed them when they told the world.
-So piggybacking off of these two hcs, I do think at some point the mummy denizens of Paititi used to free roam for a bit and were not entirely stuck underground. But after so many run ins and potential dangers from outsiders, they had eventually made it a rule to strictly stay within the city's underground walls.

I know You're not much of a fan of Labyrinth but I highly do think You should at least give much more credit one last time because after researching its origins, I've recently discovered it was inspired by Maurice Sendak's book, Outside Over There.
In that one short story, it had the same concept as Labyrinth, only not much excitement but it did share some ideas of Goblins kidnapping a Baby only to replace an actual changeling which the Older Sister found out and flee with Their Mother's raincoat while Their Father was Out traveling in the sea finding out that the Goblins also looked like Human Infants before disappearing into thin air as the story did End just like in the Film with the Siblings reuniting each other.
Not only that, nut from what I've heard beneath its dark origins behind Outside Over There Sendak got the idea when He heard the tragic news when He was 4 back in 1932 about a Baby named Charles A. Lindbergh Jr. Who was kidnapped & killed by carpenter Bruno Richard Hauptmann which happened in the Baby's room was He captured leading into the Family's Investigation (His Mother was another author Anne Morrow), but the founding of the Child's death was a head blow but His Killer was shortly found being punished in an electric chair.
As super dark as it may seem as it was considered to be the "Crime of the Century", I'm surprised it's not often brought up much for Labyrinth's origins but I do think it's a good reason to only bring up the original book more which Sendak assumedly accused Henson was stealing His idea but the end credits mentioned his work's acknowledge.
tl;dr: Labyrinth is based on a children's book which was also based on a real tragic story. I was wondering if you were at least aware of some of it.
Oh I never did say it was a bad film or anything of the sort! Just that it wasn't my cup of tea because the pacing and the story itself didn't stick the landing to keeping my attention in full. I do give it credit for trying though and I do appreciate the other things it has done.
And I was somewhat aware of its origins prior to watching the film. One of my exes is a big fan of the film and she told me lots about it when we used to watch movies together and talk about them. Some of the other details, was not too aware of that but I do see what you mean.
Henson's works are always something to look at with a fresh set of eyes each time and while not all of them are a grand hit for me, I do appreciate what he does and can say I wish more people gave puppetry more credit for being a wonderful story telling media for all audiences. And I know Henson wouldn't outright steal something and not give credit for it.
In these days especially, a lot of everything is based on something else or a retelling of another story and so forth. That's what a story is made for, after all. To be told and retold and reshaped and reformed while still giving credit to its origins! Though, to be honest if I may speak freely on this, in the case of the original author, he himself can't just accuse someone of stealing something (if he did so) when he himself based his story on a real-life tragic event and opted to call it original after. It's a bit of a hypocritical thing to do but again that's only IF he actually did accuse Henson of theft.
Anyhow, I do appreciate your insight on the film and what it's based on! I guess for anyone who isn't aware, this is something they can look up and do research on if they wish to! Maybe one day I will rewatch the film again and think differently this time!
