Why do you think Beth would be at Hilltop?
Ah, sorry I kinda left this sitting here. I wanted to wait a bit and collect my thoughts on the subject. This contains comic spoilers so if you don’t want to hear about those, stop reading now.
I do think she’s at the hilltop. Recently at the NY comic con, Robert Kirkman implied we’d be seeing some other communities this season. Logically, it makes sense that Hilltop is the main one we might see. In the comics, Maggie moves to Hilltop separate from the group after she loses Glenn. She rallies the population together to overthrow their leader Gregory and becomes the new leader. Now I know some people could argue that this could still happen with tv Maggie but I disagree based on a few factors. The Maggie that we know from the television series is a bit different than the Maggie from the comics. Mainly, I do not think she would willingly leave team family, not by herself.
We know a few things. We know that Glenn is not dead yet, there is no possible way after all that shadiness. Unless she finds his dead body or stumbles upon him as a walker, she’ll never just write him off. Not for a long time anyway. Thus effectively giving her no reason to branch off from the group. That leaves us with the issue of introducing Hilltop in a way that flows with the narrative and current plot. Also, we know that last year on Talking Dead when asked if Beth would make a good leader, Emily got suspiciously overly excited and emphasized that she would make a GREAT leader. So let’s think about it. In the comics, we have a member of the GREENE family separate from the group. Working her way up to LEADER of the Hilltop Colony. It doesn’t make sense for Maggie’s arc at the present time but it would make sense for Beth’s.
After leaving Grady, she would know to travel to Richmond to check for her family knowing that they would likely go there if Noah said it had walls and it was a safe place to be. After discovering the same grizzly sight they did, I don’t imagine she would just go back down south. She would keep moving forward and she doesn’t know about Alexandria so it may be that she stumbles across Hilltop first and decides to make the best of it the same way that Daryl suggested they try and make the best of that funeral home. It just makes sense to me.
