Man is not made for defeat - the work of Domenic Paradisi
Domenic Paradisi (°1973, Monaco, Monaco) is an artist who works in a variety of media. By creating situations and breaking the passivity of the spectator, Paradisi wants the viewer to become part of the art as a kind of added component. Art is entertainment: to be able to touch the work, as well as to interact with the work is important.
His artworks are based on inspiring situations: visions that reflect a sensation of indisputability and serene contemplation, combined with subtle details of odd or eccentric, humoristic elements. With a subtle minimalistic approach, he tries to create works in which the actual event still has to take place or just has ended: moments evocative of atmosphere and suspense that are not part of a narrative thread. The drama unfolds elsewhere while the build-up of tension is frozen to become the memory of an event that will never take place.
His practice provides a useful set of allegorical tools for manoeuvring with a pseudo-minimalist approach in the world of art: these meticulously planned works resound and resonate with images culled from the fantastical realm of imagination. By putting the viewer on the wrong track, he creates work in which a fascination with the clarity of content and an uncompromising attitude towards conceptual and minimal art can be found. The work is aloof and systematic and a cool and neutral imagery is used.
His works are given improper functions: significations are inversed and form and content merge. Shapes are dissociated from their original meaning, by which the system in which they normally function is exposed. Initially unambiguous meanings are shattered and disseminate endlessly. Domenic Paradisi currently lives and works in Charlerois.
Das Punkt is an Amsterdam based duo since july 2008. Consisting of one musician and one graphical artist this duo combine their crafts and interests in arts, electronica, music and odd historical events to create songs that hover between techno, soundscape and underground hardcore. Their music can be described as seductive, sometimes disturbing, with a dark palette of sounds and samples. The same time it has a stark undertow of love for live. They make music that makes you move, but you cannot dance on.

Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.

Death In The Afternoon
Ernest Hemingway’s Death In The Afternoon cocktail shares the name of his book. The cocktail was featured in the 1935 book So Red The Nose, a collection of celebrity cocktail recipes. Hemingway’s own instructions are: “Pour one jigger of Absinthe into a Champagne glass. Add iced Champagne until it attains the proper opalescent milkiness. Drink three to five of these slowly.”
-
1. Pour absinthe in a Champagne flute. 2. Fill the glass with Champagne.
