in spider-man 2 when spider-man is trying to stop the train from crashing, the first thing he tries is stopping the train with his feet pressed against the track, but all that does is break up the wood planks on the track without slowing the train down at all. when spider-man gets up to rethink his approach -- already exhausted and agonized from his fight with Doc Ock before he even blew out his knees on the tracks, dealing with his Aunt May getting evicted on top of his own poverty, having literally JUST pushed the woman he loves and who loves him away again, and now feeling the enormous pressure of the lives of everyone behind him being at stake unless he thinks fast --
an old man behind him says "You got any more bright ideas?" and there's a split second where spider-man just looks at him like this

So having been in online fandom spaces since 1997 (stop laughing at me, @iconuk01 I can hear you! Lol)
I wanted to impart some things I've learned that might be useful, considering some of the behaviors I've noticed in my current fandom.
1. Do not expect a piece of media you did not create to do what you want. Be delighted when it does. But deep expectations will destroy you and your enjoyment.
2. The actors you love do not need you to defend them online. Many of them make more money than the rest of us will ever see. If they're that bothered, they can lawyer up. They do not need you. They are not your little babies. They are grown ass people. I know that's hard because your knee jerk reaction is to jump into the fight. Save yourself the anxiety. Go eat a snack instead.
3. There will always be other fans trying to stir shit for attention. Again. Go eat a snack instead of feeding the trolls. You don't need to feed their toxicity.
4. If a piece of media makes you uncomfortable, sit with that. Think about it. Don't just rag on it as something you hate. Hold it in your hands and think about it.
5. In ten years, you're gonna cringe hard at some of the shit you put online. That's okay. We all do.
6. Your ship is two characters who do not exist in the real world. Debate stuff with other fans. Don't make it personal. Don't be cruel. You're acting like a bad person over something that doesn't exist outside its book/tv show/movie/comic. It's not worth hurting a real person.
7. Have fun. That's the whole point. If it's not fun, re-examine. Make friends. Create content. Enjoy this shit. That's what it's there for.
y'all pray for my boy jayce talis. ain't nothing wrong with him he just can't stop making big yearning puppy eyes at his lab partner.

I know we talk a lot about the literacy crisis and the horrible anti-intellectualism happening rn but I think we need to talk more about how much of an entitlement complex the stupidest among us have developed
Imagine not finding joy in being able to say “I just learned a new word!”
You can tell moonlight.archive_ is not a magic the gathering player
i would never project onto doctor captain ryland grace what are you talking about
we really should be calling it fanworks, not content
I'm here for fun and community not to rp a mega corporation's underpaid social media intern
my most Millennial trait is that i want big screen to think properly. to compose my thoughts. app exists for your thing but no website? bad bad bad not good for think, need big screen for think. i wrote this post on the small screen btw
I read somewhere that one thing that really pisses off companies about Millennials is that we won't make big purchases on our phones, we always feel compelled to get out a laptop or hop on a desktop for it
Hell, I won't make SMALL purchases on my phone unless I'm forced to.
If money's goin' out? I want a full keyboard and a screen.
I saw a lady today holding a kitten really high up so artistic rendition of it because it made my day. The lil guy was just okay with it

Posting this for my soul cat Kenzie (she passed a few years ago but I still think of her every single day) and for everyone else who has lost someone they love. ❤️
