███   EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY.   ::   emma  &  mikey  ,   𝚍𝚎𝚊𝚝𝚑 𝚘𝚏 𝚊𝚗 𝚘𝚙𝚝𝚒𝚖𝚒𝚜𝚝.

::　　  ✖︎   with her eyes filled with tears, emma takes mikey’s hand in both of her own and rests her forehead on his shoulder.  with draken’s latest injury, emma hasn’t slept and her eyes are starting to hurt from the strain of exhaustion and the crying   -   all the crying.  mikey of course, is strong in ways that emma can’t quite fathom, a shoulder that he allows her to lean on when she knows all too well that he probably needs a shoulder too.

he deserves to have that.  mikey is strong for sure, sometimes it seems like he’s almost inhuman in his strength and perseverance but for someone like him, there must be an ache that no one can quite see.  sometimes, she feels guilty that she herself can’t be that shoulder for him especially when he’s always offering her his.  in moments like this, it’s all but impossible.

“  you really think so ...? are you really, really sure?” she trails off in her choked voice, eyes ringed red and puffy.  her hands squeeze his in their hold, the desperate hope that lingers hanging on to his certain words.  mikey always sounds so sure of himself.  she wonders how he does it.  his hands aren’t even shaking in between hers.  it’s enough to put a weak smile on emma’s lips, trembling but trusting.  “  you know ... you’re right.  he better wake up.  i’m going to give him an earful for worrying me like that.”

::　　  ✖︎   he has his feet kicked up on the desk as he clips the money in bunches by the thousand.  it’s soothing, being able to touch money like this   -   money he didn’t have when he needed it, money that he could have used years ago but now surrounds him in piles of more than he could ever need.  such is the way of bonten.  kokonoi thinks he made the right choice   -   the right choice for him.  the right choice for inupi.  he counts out another thousand and he tells himself that it’s better this way.

that is, until a grating, irritating voice comes in with the slam of a door.  of course it’s sanzu haruchiyo.  of course he can’t walk through a door normally.  (   but what is normal in this fucked up team of an upper echelon? maybe sanzu is the new normal.  maybe kokonoi is the outlier, since he just carries the money.   )

“  what do you want now?”  kokonoi eyes him from his seat at the desk, his hand gripped tight around the cash that he’s now lost track of counting.  “  if you’re here to ask for more money, fuck off.  i already gave you your allowance this week.”  he pauses, adding with a half smile that doesn’t reach his eyes.  surely, there’s no amusement dealing with a psycho like sanzu, even worse when he’s off his pills.  but kokonoi always tests the waters, always presses just an inch too far because why the fuck should he care.  “  did you even use any of the cash on food this week? last i checked, drugs aren’t the only thing that need to run through your bloodstream, but what do i know.”

::　　  ✖︎   takemichi isn’t sure why he only started to realize this now, but honestly, inui is just really damn dramatic.  had he always been this way? it’s a question that he actually finds he doesn’t know the answer to   -   huh.  well, he has been pretty one track minded.   getting to know inui wasn’t really on his radar.

(   but if he had to be honest, it’s not like he couldn’t have made some time.   )

thinking about it, he made friends with chifuyu, after all.  draken, and mikey too.  he settled himself in toman and on his way up the ladder got to know just about everyone.  why should inui have been any different? the words call us when you need us rings loud through his ears, a memory that he somehow tucked away in between everything else.  what a shitty captain he had been.  he couldn’t even say that he kept him at an arm’s length because of his status as a former black dragons subordinate.  to him, that didn’t really matter.

inui really just slipped through the cracks with everything on his mind.  he’s not really sure he deserves this devotion now.

he rubs the back of his head and allows an awkward laugh to tumble from his lips.  “  ahh ha ... yeah .........”  takemichi can’t help but trail off, his brow knitted as he looks at inui.  really takes a look at him, for the first time.  the vacant expression that he first attributed to inui isn’t so vacant now.  he can see a little bit there, just behind the surface   -   an emotion that takemichi can’t place a name to.  he swallows thickly.

“  you know.  you don’t have to do that.”  he starts again, awkwardly.  “  i’m not going to make you do anything.  you might ... have said you’d follow me, but y’know.  i’m giving you a choice.  i’m not sure if anyone has given you that before but.  starting now.  i want to make sure you have a choice.”

          𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝚃𝙸𝙶𝙴𝚁’𝚂 𝚂𝙴𝙽𝚂𝙴𝚂 𝙰𝚁𝙴 𝙾𝚅𝙴𝚁𝙻𝙾𝙰𝙳𝙴𝙳. the scent of blood is … gag inducing to say the least. no matter how many times he smelled the stuff it never got any easier. why dazai had insisted on taking a mission outside of yokohama is still a puzzle. of course he’d had back up … but those men had been gunned down before he’d had a chance to enter the building. luckily the ability user had been no match for the tiger. ( not that many were. ) but it leaves atsushi a bloody mess and stumbling down the streets of a city he knew little about. yokohama is home, the place he’d spent the last five years. 

          finding a dark alley he slides down the wall, sliding off his coat to relieve some of the heat. he’s burning up and fuck, the turtleneck doesn’t help either. but atsushi can’t simply expose his collar to the world. between fighting the enemy and running away he hadn’t even changed from his half - tiger form quite yet. a dark boot hits the bottom of a trashcan, causing it to echo between the walls of the alley. it’s then his head lifts to see … a man. by a bike ? it’s late. well, nearing eight. the sun is just setting and the light is still good enough just to see as he stands from the bike. shit. atsushi isn’t in the mood.

::　　  ✖︎   the light is growing dimmer by the minute.  he’ll have to stop working on the bike soon, the same bike he hasn’t rode for years.  at least the sound of the ratchet gives him a sense of peace as mikey twists it around to tighten up a bolt by the wheel.  it’s in these moments, by himself where he feels the most sane   -   where the world is nothing but the old days, where he would go riding with baji and draken and his older brother on christmas until his own fall from grace.

peace though, is a fickle thing.  though it is lonely in the back alley, because kisaki makes sure he pays good fucking money to make it that way, there’s always the wrong person stumbling in at all the wrong times.  mikey sits at his bike and stares at it blankly for a moment.  the world is getting darker, and his vision too, blurs.

his hand tightens on the ratchet.  time to take out the trash.

“  well well.  what do we have here?”  mikey says in a dull voice, brushing back his long and greasy blond hair from his face.  he keeps a tight hold on the ratchet, but it isn’t held like a weapon now.  it hangs limp at his side as he gazes at the   .  .  .   on the ground.

he isn’t sure if it’s a trick of the light or if he’s actually going crazy now.  maybe the solitude has really started fucking with his head   -   honestly, mikey wouldn’t be surprised.  he’s been fucked up since before.  long before.  his dark and deadened eyes lift slowly to the strange ears, and the obviously inhuman limbs.  the blood on the   .  .  .   doesn’t register in his head.  he’s far past the point of something like this causing him concern.

but ... for the first time in forever, a spark of real interest fills his void.  is this a hallucination?  perhaps.  but it would be even better if it’s real.  “  looks like an alleycat.”
