This is from my tiny hometown in Michigan!!!!! Aoy Lachapelle is the owner. She runs the shop while her husband, a local news anchor, takes orders and runs the till. She calls everyone boyfriend and girlfriend when they come in and hasn’t had a day that wasn’t packed from open to close in my memory. Not only is she outspoken about her politics, every year a chunk of the money she makes from Rice Paddy goes directly back to her hometown in Thailand to support crucial infrastructure. She’s done awesome work with the local food bank/shelter project, too. She’s also written a book and recorded a few instructional cooking videos.

Aoy is a total badass and enriches every community she’s a part of. I’m proud to be from the same town she calls home.
