The Parklane Historian speaks to DJ Faahsai
DJ Faahsai is a rising Asian superstar DJ who’s a familiar mainstay in live music and club events. A veteran of 7 years, The Parklane Historian had the opportunity to interview her at IICON’s inaugural Iconic Water Festival event.

You’ve been DJ-ing for some time. How long has it been since you first started?

I started when I was 21. It’s been 6 years now.

What kind of software/equipment do you use for your sets?

Outside of live events and clubs, what kind of music do you listen to when you like to relax?

I listen to a lot of Trapp and Hip-Hop. For local (Thai) bands, I really like Thaitanium.

You’ve been to Singapore a couple of times. How do you find it and what’s your favourite food over here?

Yes, I’ve been here about six times. The people here are always nice and friendly, very much like Thai people. It’s always good to be back.

As for Singaporean food, you can’t go wrong with either Chicken Rice or Bak Ku Teh (meat dish cooked in broth).

On the topic of food, if you could only bring a tourist to one place to eat in Bangkok, where would it be?

Definitely Yaowarat/ Chinatown. There are tons of affordable and delicious snacks there both on street carts and restaurants. There’s always something new or interesting to try out when you go there. The street food scene in Bangkok, is very dynamic and always changing. But you can be sure that it is always aroi (delicious).

As a veteran DJ, you are pretty familiar with the best clubs and live music venues in Bangkok. Where would you recommend for a good night out in the city?

I would start the evening slow at Nunglen & Escobar and then finish the night at either Onyx or Demo. These venues never disappoint.

You are in great shape. How do you manage to maintain your figure?

I always make it a point to exercise at least three times a week. I do a combination of both running and Muay Thai.

I also watch what I eat. Everything in moderation. I believe in health foods and the basics: getting enough rest and drinking water whenever I can.

Let’s move the topic to dating life, can you tell us briefly what type of guys are your type?

Definitely guys who know how to treat a woman with respect. Guys who know how to pamper a girl and treat her right. It’s very important in a relationship that there is both mutual respect and you enjoy being around the person. Actually, in all relationships really.

Right now I am very happy with where I am. I am grateful I have had the opportunity to do what I love for a living. I’ve met incredible people in this line and had great mentors.

You travel a lot for work and leisure. Any interesting places you’ve been to recently?

I just recently got back from Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) in Las Vegas. It was a 3-day event and it was just epic. I was with friends and everyone had a such good time. Such events always inspire me to do my best. It was amazing!
