Marfa’s usual suspects did not disappoint in their boisterous imposition on the land. Thinking lots about the intentions and complexities of art which relies on setting to effect concept.

Bartenders here were reticent in all the ways my Canadian mannerism respects. They guided me on into an adventurous one night in Marfa, complete with a dance party “outside of town…it gets pretty dark then is at the big red barn.”

Experience—mystifying, overwhelming, conscious, subconscious—rolls over everybody. We try to adapt, to learn, to accommodate, sometimes resisting, other times submitting to, whatever confronts us. Experience has no chapter headings or paragraph breaks or ellipses in which you catch your breath . . . it just keeps coming at you.

10.22 - Slept on Louisiana ground at Snow White Sanctuary Farm just East of the TX border. The horses reminded me I need to be around them in forthcoming seasons. An orchestra of animals sounds all around - kept up late by barking dogs, feel asleep to the munch of grazing, and woke up early to a rooster and cows from a neighboring dairy farm. It made for a better memory than experience, still a dreamy property that’s comforting to recall off a dead end road in a little corner of the country.
10.20 - Met up with some lovely & familiar faces / having my bike on this trip has already brought such joy
Southern Louisiana topology is fascinating on maps, how the land becomes negative space and water takes over as the positive, and I’ve been curious what it looks like IRL for some time. I crossed I-10 over Lake Pontchartrain right at sunset and it got better from there - roads and highways built on stilts through swaps, top heavy and sparse trunked trees jutting out at any angle, a Dr.Seuss-esque other worldly landscape. The land itself seems entirely inhospitable to human beings, and here we are (concrete can really get us to anywhere). I’m enchanted by the little I saw of this state - top tier return rate.
10.21 - Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana
Very few shots of New Orleans / preoccupied with total enchantment / I’ll be reading any book & watching any movie set in this town / Your spell worked and BRB, promise.
Cheers to a hot 40 hour bop!
10.20 - NOLA you’re killing me 💓
