That's it! It's over, I'm done. I leave for Paris today and then home tomorrow! EEEEP!
THE END OF ANOTHER CHAPTER
I know I haven’t been posting very exciting things recently, but to be honest, I’m done with Vienna. I’m so close to going home that I don’t have the energy to go out and do fun things anymore.
It’s a full 5 days left at the UN and then on Saturday I start my journey home, first stopping in Paris for one night. By this time in a week I will be at home with my people and the sun.
I don’t think I’ve said “I can’t wait!” this much in my life. Ever.
I suppose this is the time to reflect a bit:
Vienna has been incredible. It got off to a rocky start but I soon found a groove and made some incredible friends that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Despite a terrible living situation I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and will eternally be grateful for the fulfilling experience I had at UNODC. It has opened me up to a whole new field of interest that I was not aware of. Who knows, perhaps I find myself back with UNODC sooner than I think.. I am very content with how the second half of 2016 went.
For now I am ready to go home. 6 glorious weeks in Cape Town where after I’ll go back to Paris for my final semester. I’m equally excited to be back in France - I miss my friends and the vibe.
Suffice to say, you won’t be reading anything on here for a bit. Until 2017, auf Wiedersehen!

SUL MI WAS HERE!
My dear friend, Sul Mi, paid me a visit all the way from Paris this weekend. It was so amazing having her here, even though the weather was pretty dismal and we ended up spending a lot of time indoors, eating, drinking beer and watching movies.
The Christmas markets are officially open and the gluhwein was exactly what we needed to warm us up. On Saturday morning we were surprised with the first snow of the season. To say it was cold is an understatement. The snow also confined us to my apartment for the most of the day but we eventually braved the cold to go visit the Prunksaal of the Austrian National Library. It is simply breathtaking! 200 000 books dating between 1500 - 1800 displayed beautifully in the most amazing building.
We ended off our last night with wiener schnitzels and beer, feeling kind of embarrassed that we didn’t go out the last night but it was just too cold to bear!
Sul Mi had to leave super early on Sunday morning (which was coincidentally a really nice day - of course!) so I spent the day snoozing and being lazy. Her visit signaled the start of the end for me: I have three weeks left, 2 weekends that I can use to do the last things I want to do and see, pack up my life here and haul of that back to Paris before I leave for home. I’m so incredibly excited to be going to SA so, so soon! Just in time: as it seems that winter is definitely here to stay.

BEST TWO WEEKS
A day after getting back from Albania, my boyfriend (yes, I have a boyfriend now), arrived in Vienna for a two week visit. Even though I had to work the first week, I got three days off in the second week, and we made use of all our time together to explore museums, visit beautiful Fall-toned parks and hanging out at our lovely AirBNB. I could not have asked for a better way to spend the past 2 weeks with one of my favourite people and I’m so thankful that I got to do it before going back home in December (35 days to go!). Thanks Jonathan!
PS. A few of these were taken by Jono, who you should follow cos he is really talented and makes nice photos.
He really didn’t have a choice and we jumped straight into the art museums during his first few days here. As usual, the Albertina and the Leopold Museums were absolute treats. The woodcut exhibition temporarily on display at the Albertina was particularly beautiful!
We found this amazing restaurant specialising in gin, burgers and cheesecake: the perfect meal! Check out Said The Butcher To The Cow for some amazing food and a great atmosphere.
One of my favourite bands, Explosions in the Sky, was performing in Vienna, so I couldn’t miss out on seeing them live. It was incredible! They’re an instrumental band and I was scared the vibe might be a bit weird, but the light show was astounding and the venue (Arena Wien) was perfect for the space: not too big, with standing and seated spaces.
The rest of the weekend we ended up taking it very easy, going to the Belvedere Palace to ogle the Klimt paintings and walk around in the gardens, play with leaves, hangout with some of my fellow interns and binge-watch some series.
Monday and Tuesday I had to go back to work, and Jono had to go to Salzburg, but the rest of the week we had free so that we could just hang out and do some cool things.
The colours at Schonbrunn Palace is actually unreal this time of the year. We didn’t even visit the castle and just ended up walking through the gardens, staring at the beautiful trees.
Zentralfriedhof, Vienna’s biggest cemetery, was another beautiful outing. The Jewish section at Gate 1 was particularly beautiful, with lush green tones and relatively unkempt graves. It was also one of the rare days where we could feel some sun on our skins.
We spent the rest of the day grabbing lunch at the Nachsmarkt and looking at Secessionist architecture and art.
We spent our last full day together exploring Bratislava. As I’ve been there a couple of times there are a few places I like to go back to, but we also visited new spots such as the Blue Church and a traditional Slovakian restaurant. I already have some fond memories of the capital of Slovakia but getting to share a few of my best-loved beers with Jono has made this one of my favourite places in the world. It was a good day :)
On Sunday we took it real easy, packing the last of our stuff, cleaning the apartment and wishing the hours would go by slower. But soon it was time to head to the airport. Even though it was completely sucky to say goodbye, I am so incredibly lucky to have had these two weeks, filled with so much fun, love and excitement. It flew past, however I know this is only the start of a thrilling adventure.
ALBANIA AND BACK AGAIN: A PHOTO STORY
Last week I spent 6 days in Albania, attending a Global Coordinators meeting with the WCO and UNODC. I’m so, so lucky to have been able to go: I met some really interesting people, got to see the other side of my program’s activities and had the privilege of seeing how the next year’s activities will unfold. On top of that, the hotel, amazing (and affordable) food and beach views everyday made for a pseudo-holiday.
Our home for the week was the port town of Durrës, located on the Adriatic Ocean and about 30 minutes from the capital Tirana. Here are some photos from my trip (WARNING - it’s only food, wine and beach, but I promise we also worked everyday):

SMALL UPDATE
A lot has been happening lately but nothing major to report on really. Work has been incredibly busy, filled with lots of late nights at the office. My team is leaving for Albania on Sunday and by luck I get to go with. It's our annual global meeting, which should be an excellent learning experience. We will be there the entire week and return on Saturday. I will have just enough time to do a load of laundry, unpack and get a good night's sleep before I receive a special visitor for 2 weeks. I'm incredibly excited, not just for the adventures but also to have one of my people here, with me.
