The Austrian Post Office Savings Bank is a famous piece of Viennese Secession architecture, built in 1904-1906 by architect Otto Wagner. It’s starkly beautiful but hard to photograph well – however, check out the modernist angels on the rooftop!
The building remained a bank till 2017, but it’s now part of a university. What was once the main banking hall houses a café and is free to visit – some of the numbered booths where the bank tellers sat are still in place and the whole space looks strikingly modern. In case you were wondering, the metal poles with Dalek-like tops were once heaters.
