the thing about ilya's bisexuality i keep thinking about is that, presumably, if it weren't for shane ilya would've stayed in the closet till he died at a tragically young age. which feels so obvious but also.... from shane's perspective it seems like ilya isn't really suffering in the closet before they're together. like it's so easy for him to pass as straight, he loves sex with women, so unless he's in a relationship with a man there's no reason for him to come out, he could have the social acceptance that comes with being a straight guy forever. so getting with shane makes ilya's life a million times harder.

but do you all know that quote that's like you can't only repress half of it you can only repress all of it? obviously ilya's not repressed in a typical sense but like.... having to hide his bisexuality from nearly everyone in his life doesn't not hurt just because it's easier for him to pass as straight. i think he just didn't think there was ever an option of coming out, until he did the brave thing with shane. the closet was already an obstacle for him, it was shane that gave him a path out.

Got into a discussion about emergency response at a professional retreat recently and everyone was going on and on about agility, and I was like, "Okay but what about contingency?"

And they were like "What?"

And I was like, "Agility isn't the ultimate form of preparedness. Contingency is. Agility still requires you to flounder and figure out a solution in the moment, but if you have a contingency plan, all you have to do is implement it."

And they were like "But you can't make contingency plans for every situation!"

And I was like, "Yeah, you basically can if you just identify all of your basic dependencies and contingency plan around the loss of any dependency," and then I gave a few examples.

And they all stared at me like I'm an alien.

Anyway, that's how I figured out I'm Batman-coded and also learned how Batman must feel talking to supposedly professional superheroes who never bothered to run disaster scenarios until I pointed out that it's insane that they don't already have a plan for if Superman turns evil.

i love the “hollanov has a crush on carter vaughn” take not necessarily in a “i think they would invite him to watch” way but more in a “ilya would accidentally let it slip while chirping at shane to fluster him that vaughn is at the top of their ‘would’ list and vaughn is a little thrown off and straight so he’s like “are you guys asking?” and ilya laughs and pats his shoulder and assures him “absolutely not, i do not share my shane, we just think you are good looking man, i like that you are pretty and fun and my shane likes that you are serious about hockey and have good grooming habits. is not serious, do not worry vaughny we will not be asking you to witness me and my beautiful husband ever” and vaughn low key is overjoyed about it, his teammates who are around and hear the exchange are sometimes like “that doesnt bother you? you dont find that a bit weird?” but vaugh genuinely is just like “rozanov just called me pretty and fun enough to hang out with and hollander thinks im good at hockey and clean enough for him, you could hand me a nobel peace prize and it wouldnt come close to this achievement” and eventually it gets out to the general public so vaughn is captioning his instagram posts shit like “#1 contender for being the hockey husbands third goes fishing” despite shanes mortification about this getting out and vaughns clear delight with it” way

I see we're giving Shane a peanut allergy. As someone married to someone with a peanut allergy please let me tell you that Ilya would be SO STRESSED all the time. He would ask more often than Shane if the dish has peanuts in it. He has benedryl in one pocket and nasal spray in the other. He makes eye contact with the waitress and says, so slow and deliberate that his accent is almost nonexistant, "Are there peanuts in this dish? My husband is extremely allergic to peanuts. You cannot prepare this dish on any surface that has touched peanuts." If he eats peanut butter in the house he yells "PEANUTS PEANUTS PEANUTS" and puts everything directly into the dish washer and then goes into the garage to eat his peanut butter toast. Which he does still eat occasionally. Because he really loves peanut butter.
