Hi! we are three students from Mexico and this is our art history proyect. In this blog you can learn about sculpture from Romans, Greeks and Byzantines wihtin Goths. 

Sculpture has been a way to artistically express graphically some event or important person. Sculpture within architecture has been used in history as both artistic and historic resources. Civilizations like greeks, romans and byzantines have left with their sculptures a vast amount of knowledge and patrimonium. As we're learning in this blog, many aspects of daily and historic life can be learn from the civilization's sculptures.

PAST MASTERS: BYZANTINE AND GOTH SCULPTURE.

Characteristics: 

Byzantine

Used sculpture, frescoes and implemented mosaics.

Mosaics and painting were colorful

They had the only purpouse of praising the church and religion.

Goth: 

In gothic churches: 

Statues crafted on the stone columns and walls substituted frescoes and mosaics as artistic resources for religion and teaching. 

Churches had cross form in their main hallway with other two hallways aside. 

They implemented chapels. 

Cathedrals and churches were supported by arches and flying buttresses. 

The cathedrals had a floral window in the front. (Ex, Notre Dame de Paris and Expiatorio de Guadalajara).

Best example of Byzantine mosaic.

Popular mainly in France.

Characteristics: 

Mainly made for leaders and important people. 

Statues made of bronze but also marble. 

Busts made of marble. 

Wanted to show greatness and power.

PAST MASTERS: THE SCULPTURES OF ANCIENT GREECE: 

Characteristics: 

Originally made of bronze. Then they were made from marble because bronze was needed for belic purpouses. 

Statues had anatomical acuraccy and perfect human details.
