“It’s always been you.” HANCE HANCE HANCE

The moment hits him like a wave.

One second, he’s laughing and balancing his mug of hot chocolate, trying not to spill it in the middle of Lance’s story, and the next, he’s staring at Lance’s smile, completely transfixed and utterly enamored.

It’s so obvious, Hunk wonders how he could have missed it. Since day one at the Garrison together, Hunk has always cared about Lance, worrying over his eating and his homesickness and his grades. Hunk has always assumed those feelings were nothing more than friendship.

And, sure, at one point it might have been friendship, but it’s definitely something more than that now. Because now, instead of wanting to listen to Lance finish his somewhat exaggerated story, Hunk wants to kiss him. He wants to reach forward and feel Lance’s perfectly soft cheek or run his fingers through Lance’s hair. He wants to draw Lance in and taste the spot where Lance’s neck meets his shoulders.

It’s as if every soft, affectionate feeling he’s ever had for Lance crashes over him in a flash of blinding realization. In an instant, he’s dragged from the comfort and familiarity of shore into the unknown. Into complex questions of what to do now and what if Lance doesn’t feel the same.

Lance must notice something’s wrong, because he stops laughing and quirks a brow. “You okay?”

Hunk tries to answer, because he knows it’s awkward to be this quiet for so long, but he can’t breathe with those blue eyes fixed on his, and so he does the only thing he can think of.

He spills hot chocolate on his leg.

Lance laughed. He liked this woman. She was nice. He’s just met her and he doesn’t believe how easy it was to slip in a good conversation as if they knew each other for the longest time. It felt easy with her.
