A free weekend was approaching recently, so I decided to tackle a new weekend sewing project. What better way to spend oodles of free time than by cutting and sewing a cute new vintage-esque frock for the summer?!
I know it says "easy" on the package, but it seemed a little complicated with those mitered stripes at the bodice. I am pleased to announce that it WAS easy ... but, the skirt is so full, it was a hassle to hem. Full disclosure, I first took it to the dry cleaners to hem, but took it back after they told me it would be $30!
I was beyond excited when saw that I was able to match my stripes. Score!
This dress also had a long length, similar to the last skirt I made. I went even shorter this time, cutting and hemming to just past the knee.
My own worst critic, there are things I would change. I am pleased with how it turned out ... but I need more practice on darts and gathers.
Would you wear this? Tell me what you think here.

Vintage 6-Gore Skirt [Weekend Sewing Project]
This post is dedicated to Miss Rachel, since she sent me this pin and inspired me! I love how casual this directions on this handout are, it seems like all ladies back then knew how to make patterns and sew, and I love the idea of that.
I wanted a "denim" feel and was happy to find this liberty-esque print to use. based on the measurements they note, this skirt would finish at 33 inches ... and that does not fit my waist with an adequate wrap so I added a few extra panels to sew on. I finally ended with 8 panels.
I used a contrast color double-fold bias tape to finish the waist and the side-wrap. It closes with a few hook-and-eyes and the buttons are just for show, they are non-functioning. (I have been carting them around for years, and so glad to finally have a place to use them!)
The original length was just above my ankles (and I'm tall), to which i shortened when hemming to be tea length.
I have small concerns of the seams slipping, so I will have a couple slips on when wearing, just in case. :-)
Here is the finished product...What do you think?
Coming Soon ... Details about my Weekend Sewing Project!
