why would you ask me, a dying art blog, this
about squeezing drawing in with work: i don’t really need to. i chose an office close to where i live so i don’t spend hours commuting. we don’t do overtime, and we’re on reduced days and hours because of the pandemic. if anything, i have more free time now than i did when i was a student. so if i’m not drawing as much as i used to, it isn’t because of my job lmao. (well... it might be, but not for lack of time)
i’ve tried making drawing everyday a habit, but i could never keep that up for long. what would really keep me drawing was being active in art groups--fandom circles, discord servers, art clubs. when you surround yourself with other artists, the art just makes itself. i’ve drifted away from all that, so these days i just doodle on my sketchbook when i feel like it
as with any hobby, if you decide that something is important enough to you, you can and will make time for it. it’s easier said than done--not everyone has the privilege of controlling their time and circumstances, but if drawing is meaningful enough to you that you would give up other activities, resources, or relationships for it... that opportunity cost is an option. likewise, if making art isn’t your immediate priority, there’s nothing wrong with that either.
