I designed the new menu for Hula TIki Bar in the Northen Quarter.  They're going to print it this week so I will post a picture of it when i have one.

Final Evaluation for NMP

NMP was definitely my favourite project. It was hard to choose the subject as we had the freedom to do whatever we wanted. So I wrote down a list of my favourite topics and interests and slowly reached something I really wanted to do and got excited about. 

I would love to go Freelance after the degree but it is quite difficult to just start it straight away so for my nmp, I've come up with this company that I can hopefully develop and turn it into a real thing in my spare time. 

The company is called Lalo, it stands for Laser Lopes. The reason for this is because the products that I produced are all lasercut. The idea behind it was to bring back to life the ancient Portuguese forms of art like filigree and embroidery by turning them into something modern and quite trendy.

I used the musical instrument ukulele to lasercut on because it's something i'm really into and also because it actually originates from Madeira Island so it was the perfect object to use and tie everything together. 

I created 6 different designs for 6 ukuleles, each one representing something from Madeira Island, like the fauna and flora, the architecture, the traditional Madeiran Embroidery and the wicker practice. 

I also designed a range of jewellery, lasercut in wood. 

When getting the work done, I documented everything so in the end I could make a promotional video. 

Furthermore, I've created an official website and facebook page, which got a lot of positive feedback from the public. 

Overall, I was very happy with the results of my project. It was very exciting to see my illustrations and designs being engraved onto the ukuleles and turning them into beautiful works of art.

My last lasercut ukulele. 

Did this one today. I thought it would be interesting to try and cut the instrument all the way through so I designed this simple one to try. It turned out better than I thought! I really love it. Of course, this one is meant to be just a decorative piece, although it still works as an instrument... the sound comes out a bit lower than usual.

The big product shoot!

I did this shoot in the studios earlier on this week...was in there for 4 hours. I got some nice shots in the end. They will be put on my website

Today I lasercut the embroidery ukulele. I turned out so well! I'm very happy with it. Although the back design went a bit wrong, it stopped laser-cutting and left a gap of 1 cm between the whole design. But my tutor Kostas helped me emend it. We managed to fix it and it's hardly noticeable.

I've decided i want to cut through this ukulele. I've designed it so the shapes are simple. It will be just the front and I want to put led light inside so it lights up. I'm not too worried about the acoustics of the instrument as this one is meant to be a decorative piece.
