âPoor guyâ you chose the one person people wonât care about,â Thomas laughed at the thought. âBut hey, if you were in the game fishing for those good feel comments for them to reiterate how much better you can do than raggedy Thomas Scheffer, then you made the perfect choice.â Thatâs exactly what would happen if their little escapade wound up on anyone elseâs lips, anyway. Thomas wasnât even upset the truth. âYou got me there, I do love the drama.âÂ
Indeed, the witch was drawn to complicated messes like some moth to a flame. Nevermind the fact he was one himself.
Patroclus had definitely reached a spot of just a little too drunk. Once you got to that point, walking by yourself suddenly became harder and you started spitting out things that were fresh on mind. Jury was out if he would even recall any of it in the morning. Thomas supported the maleâs weight as best he could, keeping the bottle down by his side as they walked. Well, more like stumbled, in the direction of his apartment.Â
âDo I?â His brows coming up a bit. Patroclus would probably be sorely disappointed in that regard. At least, he would if he was expecting something nice and half-decent. âHave a little faith in me, Patty,â Thomas told him, âIâll get you there. Iâve spent the night in a ditch beforeââ many times, actually, âand itâs not all itâs cracked up to be.â Neither was his home, but it was probably better than a ditch somewhere.Â
Pretty much dragging Patroclus up the sidewalk at this point, approaching a dilapidated building that had several apartments jammed together. Luckily for them, the security door to get inside was brokenâ he only had to kick it open and frog-march the man through a narrow hallway. A bum was curled up and facing the wall, but lifted his head to look over at them as they passed. âHey Charlie,â addressing the man, before finally pausing in front of A5. Thomas moved the bottle to his other hand so he could start patting himself down, trying to remember where his key was, before finally tugging it out of his back pocket. Once he got the door open, it caught on the trash that littered his floor and once more, the witch put boot to door in order to push it wide. âHome sweet home,â he sing-sang, moving Patroclus inside and navigating him through the debris. Unconcerned that he lived in a pig sty, but at least the sofa (which was suffered from rips and dubious stains), was mostly clear aside from an empty can of beer he slapped off.Â
âThere ya go,â saying this to Patroclus as he helped the other onto the couch, which was where Thomas happened to sleep. It was a shitty studio apartment, so everything was basically right there in the living room. âHow âbout some cartoons? I got some Ren and Stimpy recorded.âÂ
âHey now, donât down talk my friend like that. Fuckinâ rude, aye?â He laughed softly, but he wasnât joking. âDonât think Iâd made the rounds in the town chin wagginâ anyway, I only hang out with like, two other people. Oh wait, and you, I guess now. And Mikey, so thatâs four. Still.â Not even Patto himself could tell what he was trying to say at this point.Â
âYeah, you definitely give off very âIâll do it myself and you should fuck offâ vibes. In a good way though. I dunno if bachelor pad was the right word, but I think you can excuse it. My brain is kind of, pudding, right now.â A laugh prompted another stumble, and even after he was upright again the world was still spinning.Â
âIâm sorry youâve had to spend the night in a ditch, it does sound shit. And, I do have faith in you, but Iâm a dumb ass and definitely was a bit too keen. Ya know, itâs-â He was cut off by his own giggling for a moment. A breath. âItâs not you, itâs me.âÂ
Most of his effort was starting to go towards walking, and his words finally trailed off. Just keeping his feet in a roughly forwards pattern was hard enough. Doubly so when looking down just made the world spin a little bit more. The state of disrepair was noticeable, but Patto was mostly excited to see inside still. Patto himself owned his own home, well, he was on the way to doing so anyway, and had only really seen apartment complexes like this on american TV. He waved to the man in the hallway, nearly losing his step in the process, before Thomas finally got them into the apartment.Â
âThank you so much, you are the best man.â Patto nodded, very slowly, as he sank down in the couch, eyes slowly drifting over all the clutter. Almost a direct contrast with Pattoâs house, which was still pretty fucking empty. âI donât know what that is but yes please. Anything complicated will melt me right now.â
