Tradition dictates that today, August 25th, I celebrate π MY 39TH BIRTHDAY π. Within the past 365 days π I have β¦ β¦ experienced clinical, extreme anxiety π° which kept me from sleeping π€, eating π½οΈ, working π₯ and socialising π―ββοΈ for nearly 7 months due to an inescapable, all-consuming family π tragedy π. β¦ witnessed the #LebanonRevolution π±π§ which saw over 1 million people take to the streets in protest β against systemic corruption πΈ, misconduct, discrimination, sectarian/tribal-ism and covert totalitarianism from a political elite π© with absolute immunity. β¦ unbelievably not been able to withdraw, exchange π± or internationally transfer π my US dollar savings π΅ deposited in a Lebanese π±π§ bank π¦ due to capital controls π«, and lost 65% π of the value of my LBP lira savings π· due to the worst currency crisis πΈ in Lebanonβs history. β¦ tirelessly (and often hopelessly) fought to keep my businesses πΌ from closing during a global π #pandemic π· which without mercy crashed π the worldβs πΊοΈ tourism industries βοΈ π¨. β¦ miraculously survived the #BeirutExplosion π₯ which took the lives of 200+ β°οΈ, injured thousands π€ and devastated Lebanonβs π±π§ capital city π while at home just 2km from the blast site π₯ with an unobstructed view of the port π’ from my balcony. Makram Salha is alive π. Gizmo is alive π. I am alive π.
