Rainer Maria Rilke: Lettres sur Cézanne, traduites et préfacées par Maurice Betz, Éditions Corréa, 1944.
“The Greenes marveled at her peculiar tastes and realized that their pinup girl was really an Old Soul. She zeroed in on their records of Bach, Mozart, and Shostakovich, and pored over their books on Renaissance art. "The feelings she had about old, old paintings,” mused Milton, “Michelangelo, Rubens, Van Dyck – that period. Not Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, or Picasso. It was the old ones she liked. I have a print downstairs she gave me of a head that looks like it came from the Michelangelo period. She bought it at an auction. There are certain old things that she heard about and liked, and she went after them personally.”

Cézanne et moi
The film is sardonic, funny and heartbreaking all at the same time. Coincidentally, I’ve been studying the “ouvrage” of these artists closely this semester, and it’s so weird to see these larger-than-life geniuses as actual human beings. But the actors were superb and the nature shots are just incredible. 9/10 ⭐️

Study of Reclining Female Nude, by Paul Cezanne from Sketchbook I, later used in Leda and the Swan
Quick side note: I took a picture of the source from a book on the Barnes Foundation Collection and I thought the artist was listed in the caption. He was not. Since I knew it was used for Leda and the Swan I did a Google image search of that. Unless you’re really into swan/human sex, don’t do a Google image search. And it’s not even works on DeviantArt. Apparently people have been painting very explicit scenes of Leda and the Swan since Pompei.
Madame Cezanne is back on the walls. MFA Boston. Is any painting by Cezanne loaned out more than this one ? donated by Robert Treat Paine II.
