“Madre De Los Colibríes” (acrylic on wood, 30” x 40”) is the first painting in my new series, In The Land of Look Behind. This series is a collection of works inspired by the folklore and cultural traditions of Afro-Caribbean, Native American, and Latin American communities. These cultures share a strong connection to storytelling, ancestral reverence, and resistance to colonialism.

“Madre De Los Colibríes” is a tribute to the rich hummingbird folklore found across Afro-Caribbean, Native American, and Latin American cultures. Click the link below to learn more about the significance of hummingbirds in each of these communities.

Nobody asked for a painting with Jamaican patties in it, but you're getting one anyway. You're welcome! 😆😁. I'm taking a short break from my traditional work to experiment with some fun new images that are a bit outside my comfort zone. I'm not quite sure where it's going, but more coming soon!

Every once in a while, I get the urge to do something completely different than what I've been doing. This is probably the most fun I've had working on a painting in a while. its a fictional self-portrait of a kid with an overactive imagination who refused to grow up. Can you spot the skateboard? 🙂🙂🙂!
