Courtney Barnett - “Pedestrian At Best”
The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed.
Stephen King
Good Reads: Why Have Kids?
A provocative and intimate exploration of modern parenthood by “a gutsy young third wave feminist” – The New York Times
The most profound data that I took from Why Have Kids? by Jessica Valenti is that parents aren't necessarily happier than parentless couples. However, people who have children feel higher highs and lower lows in terms of their happiness.
Dear White People (2014) is out on DVD and Redbox.

Travel: Xochimilco, Mexico City
A visit to the extensive canals of Xochimilco for a ride on your own boat is a must-do when visiting Mexico City. While riding on the slow boat, you can buy homemade food from the sellers on other boats passing by and hear live music. On the weekends, the canals are packed with families having picnics on the boats.
[I can't swim...] I fear the ocean out of respect.

Good Reads: The Paying Guests
A sensuous novel set in 1920's London with a lesbian story at the center. The Paying Guests (2014) was written by Sarah Waters who also wrote Tipping the Velvet and Fingersmith.
We Are The Best (2013) is a Swedish film about three thirteen year-old girls who start a punk band in 1980's Stockholm.
Available on Netflix streaming.
Travel: Frida Kahlo House, Mexico City
Frida Kahlo's House in Mexico City is a museum that you can visit. While I was there, they had a special Day of the Dead-Frida mashup.
The rest of the house is more or less the way she left it but I was not able to take pictures inside. It was worth the trip to visit and I would definitely recommended a stop if you have an interest.

Travel is only glamorous in retrospect.

Good Reads: The Alchemist
The Alchemist, published in 1988, is a parable about a boy who travels to Egypt in search of treasure. Along the way he learns many lessons through various figures. An easy read from the Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho.

Trip: Bath, England
A 2 hour bus trip from London takes you to Bath. It is relaxing and much quieter when you are ready for a break from the craziness of London.
Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.
Mark Twain
Good Reads: This Is Where I Leave You
This Is Where I Leave You: A Novel by Jonathan Tropper
A funny novel about a man who comes home to find his wife is having sex with his boss and then has to sit shiva for a week with his family after his father dies. His mother and his siblings make a crazy cast of characters. Published in 2009. A lackluster though star-packed film adaptation came out in 2014.
