i made this shell art piece a few years ago but decided to add more shells, a rope border and some sand art is an infinite sea 🐚 thank you earth for giving me supplies to create!
Goldy’s tank is so plane and boring. I can tell how bored he is alllllll day. I plan to go to my local pet store tomorrow to get him some live plants. What else do you guys think I should add? Or what kind of live plants should I get for him? Are there any plants that Bettas like more than another? Beginner over here!! Lol All (nice) opinions welcomed :)
I have no idea on live plants except I have heard Java moss and Java ferns are easy to take care of(and maybe crypts?). I’m also wondering does he have a heater?
I recommend water sprite, it’s an excellent nutrient sponge and my bettas seem to love it, and anubias, mostly because it looks really nice, stay away from plants that grow really big, check before you buy, you don’t want to have a plant outgrow your tank. There is a sticky in the planted tanks section of bettafish.com called “plants a not so scary glance guide” that was immensely helpful to me when I was new with plants.
Oops, wrong account again, I’ll stop doing that eventually.
@fishkeepingalex that is so funny! I just answered with my other account too! Yes, hopefully I will stop too

If you want to add live plants you will need to know the amount of light and the pH you have. Java ferns are a good choice as they can tolerate a lot. A warning though is plants tend to have a die back when you place them in a new tank as the water conditions, temp, and light can be different. They don’t always tolerate the change very well and sort of melt away a bit. This is okay as long as you can see new leaves or growth happening.
I am still a beginner to planted tanks but Java ferns seem to be a good introduction plant. My betta fish loves his and likes weaving in between the leaves.
@thebettacult I think I will start out with both of those! He's getting his new heater tomorrow. I was given a heater and didn't check if it worked or not before I bought him :( my luck, the heater didn't even work!! @bwabbitv3s awesome I think I'm going to get Java fern and Java moss if my local petstore has them. I'll get a pH test kit aswell. Should I wait to buy the plants until I check the water?
My freshly planted 20gal. I’ve got to decide what to stock now
Back in one of my college hot-shop classes I sculpted these life sized etched glass deer heads for a project. After the class was over I filled them with dirt and crystals and planted a few bits of moss in them. Now over 4 years later they are transformed into their own tiny ecosystems! They’re basically self contained and I literally only put a few drops of water in them every few months. The moss has completely taken over one of them and even grown into the glass coating the whole inside. The dirt I used was from the woods nearby and I guess it contained some seeds because the second one spontaneously sprouted small ferns that have been living happily with the moss since the first year. Nature is so amazing. I love looking inside them when I’m checking on them, it’s like peeping into a little world of its own.
