Y'know, the main deterrent of me not killing myself was the thought of how distraught my family and friends would be, especially my mother and partner at the time.

But the feeling I got when I received the text that one of my friends (unsuccessfully) attempted suicide gave me first-hand experience with the minimum of how distraught someone close to me would feel over my passing. And that feeling was enough to completely solidify the idea of never attempting. I never want anyone to feel that because of me.
