with a mild headache and his hands shoved in the pockets of his sweater, harry wanders the town early that morning. his headaches were something he had, unfortunately, grown to get used to the longer they were stuck in this town. not watching where heâs going, he walks into another person, and stumbles back mainly in shock of someone else being awake, before he looks at them and stops dead in his tracks. his father. âhowâŚ?â he began, before he shook his head. stupid question, plus, his mother was already here too. âdâyou wanna hear something absolutely mad?â he begins, before speaking again. âdonât answer that, mâgonna you anyway. iâm your son.â
@paxlumosâ
The sun had risen early, and so had James. Even in his most irritating days at Hogwarts, heâd never been a night owl, always up with the larks, pissing off the entire dorm as he headed, humming, for the Quidditch Pitch. There was no possibility of flying now; he hadnât seen a single broom, and the only wizards he had met were the ones he already knew. He had a sneaking, horrible sensation that perhaps there was no magic in this world at all.
Of course, he had long been unable to fly; before he had woken up surrounded by monsters and strangers, he had been trapped in Godricâs Hollow for months, with no one but Lily, Harry, and the occasional visitor for company. Lily was enough, that was true (he thought he could live on a desert island with only Lily for company and be blissfully happy), but he was a man who had to be on the move; hence the walk. His hand was on his wand, and when someone collided with him, he immediately had it out and pointed in the direction of his attacker, cursing himself for his lack of attention. All it took was one bite...but it clearly wasnât a walker. There had been no accompanying groan, and he lowered his wand slowly, the colour draining from his face.
âI know,â he said -- because it was clear. His eyes were exactly like Lilyâs, and James could see his own features reflected back at him. He felt a wave of dizziness hit him, which he managed to fight through through sheer force of will. âHarry.â The overwhelming emotion, then, was grief. âShit, you shouldnât be here, you should be safe.â

He looked at his dear friend, the frown never once leaving his face. His mouth then went dry when he heard the name Sirius. His heart betraying him as it picked up in speed. It was hard to hear that name. But at the same time he was happy that Sirius was not in a world so dark and twisted. Just knowing that James was here and the risk of losing him to something out of his control, it felt like torture. James was a brother to him. Someone he would gladly die for. Sirius was just so much more. Looking down, he twiddled his thumbs as those thoughts hit him. Maybe it was time for Remus to tell the other what he felt towards their friend.
Jamesâs eyes narrowed. He was well-attuned to all his friendsâ many expressions -- how could he not be, theyâd been together so long. Sometimes they were like extensions of himself, and though Remus could keep his poker face remarkably more than Sirius could (Sirius, who could never hide anything from James for more than a second, or so James thought), and far better than Peter, whose every thought showed on his face and who could never keep a secret for more than a minute, James still knew something was up. He leant forward, determined to extract it, like a mother sensing that her child snuck out the night before. âWhat is it?â he said, with some humour, and then a horrible thought struck him. âSirius isnât here, is he? Merlin, heâs not hurt is he?â
the world has not been kind to me.
suchdarkmatters:
âHow could you forget? And here I thought that we were close friendsâ he teased the other and then sighed. Being in such a foreign town, in such a foreign world. It scared him still. He could handle magic but he could not handle death. Especially not death wandering around like this. Holding onto his wand, the only thing keeping him sane in this twisted world, Remus then sighed at the mention of the moon. âI already changed once. It was.. torture. But I could handle it pretty well. Kept away from people and stayed quiet so the monsters couldnât find me. So no need to worry.. I know how to deal with thisâ he whispered and nodded to his own words. Everytime he changed it felt like a piece of himseld died. And he hated that the most.
Jamesâs eyebrows went up; he couldnât help it. He hated the idea that Remus had been here before him, that he hadnât been able to help; the whole thing made his head hurt -- when he had been talking to Remus in Godricâs Hollow last Friday, had that been the same Remus. With a sigh that tended towards the petulant, he grabbed a glowing stick from the fire and busied himself with doodling on the concrete floor. âI know you know how to deal with it,â he said, rolling his eyes, âbut I want to help. I hate the idea of you chaining yourself up again, you know I do. Sirius would kill me if I let you --â He stopped, swallowing. They didnât know where Sirius was, and his absence, along with Peterâs, made James queasy.
it looks like EDMUND PEVENSIE from THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA has arrived in Blackpool. he looks like EZRA MILLER, and is NINETEEN years old. Iâve heard rumors from around town that he can be SELF-SERVING, but Iâve also heard he can be JUST. I hope he has what it takes to survive.
suchdarkmatters:
How long had Remus stared into the fire? It felt like time was standing still, like it didnât truly exist anymore in this hell they are currently in. Taking a deep breath and letting it out in a deep sigh, Remus looked at James and felt a small smile form on his lips. âOf course weâre not. I am going nowhere without you by my side. You know how overprotective I getâ he reminded him before he went back to staring into the orange glow that was the fire. He was freezing even though the fire was supposed to keep them warm. It was just the knowledge that monsters roamed around that caused his skin to get cold.
âThatâs true,â James shrugged, dragged out of his dark thoughts by his usual instinct to, well, take the piss. âI always forget that youâre such a bloody mama wolf.â His eyes flicked over his friendâs familiar features, the scars a stark white in the fire glow, before he turned his gaze back to his hands; he was turning his wand over and over in his fingers, the glossy wood reflecting the light back up at him. It was a good weapon -- not so messy as some, to be sure, and the idea of carrying one of those muggle guns made him queasy -- but relying so much on it, not just for his life but for his survival, made him edgy. âSpeaking of wolfiness, Moony...â He trailed off, gesturing generally around the warehouse they were perched in. âGot any plans?â He had no idea how Remus was going to cope with the full moon in this kind of town.

The blood wouldnât stop pouring from Adamâs shoulder, no matter how much he tried to press his shirt against it, and with a slight groan he gave up, sliding down the wall of the house. The grass scratched at his ankles, but he didnât really care. His eyelids felt heavy. âI wasnât bitten,â he said, identifying a shadowy figure approaching as his eyes drooped closed, âI swear.â
[ @stcrgazinq ]
There was a loud thump as Adam landed on the tarmac and rolled; behind him, on the second floor, there were the now-familiar sounds of moans, and as he stood and started to run, a zombie followed him out of the window. Unfortunately for the monster, it had somewhat less luck with its landing, and Adam was soon clear away as it attempted to drag itself towards him with broken limbs. âJesus Christ,â he muttered to himself, trying to brush generalised gunk off his shirt. âI donât think I can take another day of this.â

Warming his hands over the small campfire, James couldnât help but think about how much had changed -- and how much hadnât changed. Right now, for instance, with Remusâs thin face lit by firelight, they could be anywhere; in his back garden in fifth year, toasting marshmallows; on a stake out, with a dirty pack of cards to keep them company; even celebrating Halloween at Hogwarts. That the world, the town, the people, the monsters around them were unfamiliar made little difference, except in that James felt even more on edge -- more than he had in the last year combined. âWeâre not splitting up.â
[ @mygoldenhart ]
âShh, get down.â
The rusted car in front of Adam smelled like petrol, and he could only hope that there wasnât anything spilled on the floor; as far as deaths went, a fiery inferno wasnât the best. Still, he grabbed the stranger by the arm and dragged her down behind the old door; the window had been shattered, and peeking through he could see the shuffling mass of zombies making their way across the parking lot. He held his breath, one eye closed, as if that would help his focus any, until they disappeared down a sidestreet -- only then could he turn his attention to the girl he had just tackled.
